Teacher who had s*x with two students has now lost job and husband after giving shocking excuse
A teacher who was sentenced for sexual relations with two students is now out of a job and without a husband.
Tayla Lee Brailey was charged with a number of offences relating to the sexual behaviour towards the two boys.
How the teacher's offences came to light
The former educator from Australia was first arrested in August 2024 after she was caught having sex with a 17-year-old boy in the back seat of his car and returned to class after the hookup.
She was released on bail, but apprehended once again when it was found out that she kissed and touched a 16-year-old boy's genitals in her classroom in July 2023, per The New York Post.
According to the Canberra Times, Brailey groomed that younger victim online and exchanged a sexually explicit photo of herself naked in the shower, asking: "Do you like what you see?"
She then allegedly made him send her a nude picture of himself and responded: "Yum," and "Stay back with me after school." Brailey then kissed the teenager and touched him inappropriately in her classroom.
Justice Elizabeth Ryan said the experience has left the victim "feeling ashamed," and that he had to leave high school before he finished.
"I don't think that feeling will ever go away ... I don't know what to do about it other than blame myself for interacting with her," he reportedly wrote in his victim impact statement.
Judge Ryan said the victim "suffered lack of sleep and flashbacks… he said none of his friends at high school speak to him anymore".
Brailey loses marriage and job as judge hands down prison sentence
Brailey, who has since trained as an accountant, lost her job and her husband after confessing to the horrific crimes.
She was sentenced to nine months in jail for having sex with the 17-year-old and 12 months for the charge relating to the 16-year-old, with an aggregate term of 15 months imposed.
"Throughout her offending, Ms Brailey knew what she was doing was wrong but she persisted with it," Judge Ryan said during the teacher's sentencing.
The judge accepted that Brailey had been experiencing symptoms of an undiagnosed bipolar disorder that created poor judgment and increased sex drive, causing her to have an "irresistible impulse" for sex with the victims.
She also admitted that while the former teacher was remorseful, she "used her position as a teacher… to abuse the trust of two young persons".
"It is also relevant that she knew what she was doing was wrong but persisted with it," Judge Ryan said.
"Offences like this cause immense harm to the trust that must exist between families and the education system...For these reasons … no penalty other than imprisonment is appropriate."
Brailey was placed on the child protection register for 15 years.
She will be eligible for parole in April 2027.
