Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping met in China, and Donald Trump was quick to give his thoughts on the three world leaders.
The leaders of these three nations were attending a grand military parade in Beijing, commemorating 80 years since Japan's defeat in World War II.
Trump’s comments, aimed at Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, drew attention to the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and these global powers.
Trump Sends Regards to China's Leaders Amid Growing Tensions
As the military spectacle unfolded in Tiananmen Square, Trump took to social media, saying: “May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration.”
However, the tone of his post quickly shifted to a more combative stance.
“Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America,” Trump added, referencing the complex geopolitical dynamics surrounding China, Russia, and North Korea’s alliances.
Xi, Putin, and Kim Lead the Parade in Beijing
The military parade in Beijing, which marked the anniversary of Japan’s World War II defeat, was an impressive display of China’s military strength.
Leaders from various nations, including Putin and Kim, were present, joining Xi Jinping at the forefront of the event.
As the procession began, the Chinese Communist Party leader, flanked by the Russian and North Korean heads of state, walked down a red carpet to take their seats for the massive spectacle, per the New York Post.
The parade featured a range of military displays, including aerial performances, marching troops, and a showcase of missiles and tanks.
Trump Raises Questions About America's Role in China's WWII Victory
In his post, Trump also pointed out the significant role the United States played in China’s victory during World War II.
He questioned whether Xi Jinping would acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices made by the U.S. during the war.
“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader,” Trump wrote.
Trump went on to emphasize the loss of American lives during China’s battle for freedom, adding: “Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!”
Ongoing Trade Negotiations with China Amid Rising Tensions
Trump’s comments come at a time when his administration is still in negotiations over a long-term trade deal with China.
Earlier this month, Trump signed an executive order that extended a tariff truce with Beijing for another 90 days.
This move temporarily averted a significant increase in tariffs on Chinese imports, which were set to rise from 30% to 145%.
In return, China’s 10% tariff on U.S. goods – which was also set to escalate to 125% – remains in place while both sides continue to engage in discussions.
