College and pranks go hand-in-hand. When I was at college, my roommates once covered everything in my room in tin foil when I went home for the weekend. Another time we replaced our friend's wine with non-alcoholic vino and watched her make a fool out of herself.
Pranks work best when they're harmless, funny, and don't land you in trouble with cops.
But that's exactly what happened at Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) in the city of Sheldon back in March.

Prior to the global pandemic resulting in nationwide lockdown measures, three female students placed skin from their feet in a bag of their roommate's cheese, nwestiowa.com has reported.
The incident took place in an Osceola Hall dorm room on March 13, and saw 20-year-old Lindsey Ann Cundiff of Pocahontas, IA, 19-year-old Kyiah Elaine Kastner of Sanborn, IA, and 20-year-old Ellie Thompson of Parker, SD, look on as their roommate tucked into a snack - totally unaware that they were actually eating dead foot skin.
It is unknown if the disgusting act was carried out as a prank or whether there was some genuine malice behind their actions, but the three were later charged by the Sheldon Police Department on Monday, April 20.
The student who ate the skin shavings has only been identified as "a fourth roommate".
Per VICE, Kristin Kollbaum, a spokesperson for the college, said in an email: "We hold the quality of instruction and safety of our students and employees as our highest priorities. We are aware of the incident and are cooperating with the proper authorities in the investigation."
It has also been revealed that just five days after the "fourth roommate" ate her roommates' literal foot skin, NCC canceled all in-person classes and resorted to online education as a result of the outbreak.
At the time of the incident, it is important to note that no cases of the novel coronavirus had been reported in the state of Iowa.

On Thursday, a former student at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was charged with attempted murder. Yukai Yang allegedly used thallium to poison his roommate, Juwan Royal, adding it to his food and drinks over a period of at least two months.
According to Assistant District Attorney Abe Kasis Royal didn't know why he'd been falling ill over several months, and was "dumbfounded" when he found out who was potentially responsible. However, defense attorney Janet Jackson insists that Yang "specifically denies every allegation of the criminal complaint" and added that "the suggestion that there is a racial motive is completely without merit".
"He denies any animosity towards Mr. Royal," she said in a statement to BuzzFeed News. "He was his closest friend at Lehigh. They were roommates for four years and best friends."
Royal first reported he had passed out in March, and during the police visit to their home, Yang told the police that milk in the refrigerator and Royal's mouthwash had changed colours. According to an affidavit, Yang said he didn't know who to suspect, but believed someone may be tampering with items in the room. Eleven days later, Royal went to hospital after throwing up for 45 minutes and feeling "shaky".
In April, police returned - this time for vandalism. Their TV had been broken, while the n-word and "get out of here" had been written on Royal's desk. Yang was the first person to discover the message, and Royal told campus police that he believed he may be behind it. According to him, his roommate "always found the strange incidents happening in his room." Yang was then arrested, and later charged with criminal mischief and ethnic intimidation.

Doctors later performed various blood tests on Royal, revealing unsafe levels of thallium, a chemical best known as 'the poisoner's poison'. Northampton County DA John Morganelli, who referred to the case as “weird and bizarre,” said that there were "small amounts of poisoning occurring" with the chemical "being added to food and drinks in the refrigerator".
Yang confessed to buying the thallium online, but claimed that it was his plan to use it on himself if he failed his upcoming exams. Later, he admitted to mixing it with food that he shared with Royal.
The substance can cause major damage to organs and the nervous system, and could result in death. When he was admitted to hospital, Royal had reported extreme pain in his lower extremities, sever burning, and numbness.
A case was built against Yang, but he wasn't charged until they could show that he had taken a significant step towards killing his roommate. His defence attorney claimed that they had "reasonable doubt" not to go through with their planned charges at the time - but now police have charged him with the crime.
This recent charge of murder is joined by two counts of reckless endangerment and assault, leaving Yang's student visa revoked and his bail set at $200,000.
A TikTok user has recently shared with her followers that after moving into her sister's old bedroom, she discovered bottles upon bottles of urine stashed away in a corner of the room.
Colleen Cameron had been doing a deep clean of the basement bedroom, which she took over from her sister who had taken over her room when she left for college.
It was during the cleaning process, which she said took a staggering four hours, that she made the unpleasant discovery.

The post, which currently has 1.3 million likes and 18.3k comments at the time of writing was captioned: "[Why] so many pee bottles [though]? [This] was GROSS."
In the video, Colleen can be seen diligently cleaning when she comes across the urine bottles.
She explains as part of several annotations in the video: "When I left for college my sister took over my bedroom and left me with her gross one in the basement. So here I am cleaning it and turning it into mine!"
Meet the woman who drinks her own urine:

Moments into the timelapse cleaning video, Colleen writes, alongside the throwing up emoji, that she "found so many pee bottles".
"And more pee bottles," she writes before adding, "So many more pee bottles".
Colleen elaborated on the discovery in the comments section, telling commenters that although the bottles were in her sister's room, they were not hers but her boyfriend's. He was "too lazy to go upstairs to [the] bathroom," she added.
One TikTok user named Emily wrote: "Can we talk about the color of the pee... does her boyfriend literally only eat Doritos and mountain dew? He should be humiliated."
Yet another user was concerned about the color of the urine in the bottles, writing: "Whoever's pee bottles are those needs to drink more water because it be orange [sic]."
A TikTok user with the handle Meh, asked: "Did your parents know it was this bad? [Because] if they did and didn't do anything about it, I'm concerned."
A different person speculated: "Was someone kidnapped down there?! Why did the previous person not use the bathroom?"

A Chinese college student has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to slowly kill his roommate with rat poison.
Lehigh University student Yukai Yang, 22, is accused of lacing Juwan Royal's food, drinks and mouthwash with thallium over time, as well as vandalising the victim's belongings with racist graffiti.
He was charged on Thursday with attempted homicide and related offences, in addition to his previous charge of racial intimidation.
Royal's symptoms included dizziness, shaking and vomiting. He first called the police in February when he drank from a water bottle in his room and his tongue began to burn.
He woke his roommate up to tell him what happened and washed his mouth out, but his tongue reportedly remained sore for a few days following the incident.
On March 18, he notified police on the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, campus when he fell ill again, with his flatmate allegedly telling officers that the milk in the fridge, as well as Royal's mouthwash had changed colour and he believed someone was tampering with his belongings.
"This was over a period of time with thallium being added to foods and drinks in the refrigerator," Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said Thursday morning. "He was getting worse all the time."
On the morning of March 29, Royal was taken to the hospital for treatment when he began throwing up and shaking.
About a week later, the words "n****r get out of here" were scrawled on his bed in graffiti.
When police compared the markings with Yang's handwriting, they noted similarities, and shortly after, blood tests found Royal had thallium in his system, a toxic metal that is colourless, odourless and tasteless.
Thallium, an ingredient formerly used in rat poison and banned in the US since the 1970s, can be fatal if consumed; Royal had 3.6micrograms per litre above the safe toxicity level for people.
After Yang's computer was seized, he confessed he had bought chemicals online, but insisted he had intended to use them on himself if his university grades started to slip.
He admitted to mixing the chemicals with food and drinks in the dorm refrigerator.
Royal is said to be "dumbfounded" by the allegations, believing that he had a good relationship with his roommate.
"Initially, Mr. Royal was dumbfounded by this as everyone else, because he believed they had a fairly cordial relationship as roommates," Assistant District Attorney Abe Kassis stated.
Yang has been sent to Northampton County Prison, in lieu of $200,000 bail. He is no longer enrolled at Lehigh University, and his student visa has been revoked.
"The Lehigh University Police Department has worked closely with the District Attorney's Office on the investigation and will continue to do so," a spokeswoman for the school told NBC News. "From the outset, our concern has been the health and safety of the victim of these alleged behaviours and, as such, Lehigh staff and faculty have been providing support, services and assistance."

While we've all considered ourselves unfortunate souls from time to time - plagued with a coterie of stubbed toes, lost possessions, and far too many drunken nights - there are some people who are so unlucky that we just assume they go around smashing mirrors and walking under ladders.
One such individual is a Reddit user who goes by the handle, TheFlyingPigSquadron. Last year, the Scottish woman shared her story on the internet, and what started with an everyday hair washing resulted in her being carted off to the emergency room. Read on to see how she ended up in a wheelchair, with a fractured ankle and a split head - but try not to chuckle too much at her misfortune...
It all began rather innocuously with the Reddit user writing, "So this morning I jumped in the shower and decided to wash my hair."
"I have very long and curly hair that reaches midway down my back. However, once it's wet the curls straighten out and my hair almost reaches my bum."
Trouble quickly ensued, however, when the woman thought a spider had managed to find its way into her shower.
"So my hair is wet, shampooing done and I just need to rinse," she continued. "I tip my head back and flip my hair over my shoulder á la shampoo adverts everywhere. And feel something brush against the top of my bum. Being the mature and logical gal I am, I came to the one and only possible conclusion."
"Spider".
And it's safe to say that the Reddit user overreacted...
"With a scream a howler monkey would be proud of, boobs flying and looking like some sort of demented mermaid, I attempted to flee the shower stall. And promptly acquired a new skill; the ability to do the splits.
"This in itself was a spectacular feat of physics as there isn't actually enough room in my bathroom for a toddler to do the splits, never-mind a 5'9" half drowned rat. As a result, when my leading foot came into contact with the toilet pedestal, my body was launched back along the floor towards the shower. This left me wedged between the toilet and the shower tray."
Of course, it didn't end there, as she was then "abruptly b*tch-slapped by the shower door."
"One trip to the A&E later and I have a sprained ankle, a fractured ankle, two broken toes, a beautiful rainbow of bruises in some interesting places and a partridge in a pear tree."
Now, as if that whole ordeal wasn't enough, it was about to get a lot worse...
In an update post, the Reddit user revealed how she temporarily ended up in a wheelchair, and back in the A&E:
"So because I'm a special little unicorn my broken toes and fractured ankle are on opposite feet therefore I'm now rockin' a b*tchin new wheelchair (well not new, it's the NHS and it's Scotland).
"Also my flat is upstairs so it might as well be on Everest, so I'm at my parent's bungalow until my sprain is well enough for me to find another way to f*ck it up.
"I've had the wheelchair for about 6 hours now and have bounced it off every door frame in the house and scuffed two of the walls (don't tell my mother). After about 2 hours of me bouncing around like a ping pong ball my mum got the s*its with me and told me to go and annoy my younger brother, who is playing Xbox in the living room.
"So after letting him have a go on the chair and basically p*ssing about, he says three little words that have resulted in this update. 'Do a wheelie'."
"F*cking challenge accepted", she stated.
"I give it a go and end up tipping the chair backwards, arse over tits (which I'm sure would, again, be flying if they hadn't been secured in a locked and upright position) and cracking my head on the fireplace.
"I'm now on my back doing the world's worst impression of an upside down turtle with a cast and now a head wound. My 19-year-old, apparently adult brother is trying to crawl to the bathroom before p*sses himself laughing."
Thankfully, the unfortunate woman didn't end up too damaged. "No I haven't injured myself again," she continued.
"I've just split the skin which was fixed with glue and tape because apparently medical and art supplies are the same thing. I'm also back in the wheelchair as the very wise Dr felt 'crutches would just be asking for it.'
"He's not wrong I full admit I would have attempted to swing from them and/or use them as pirate swords. Though most likely both."
Well, there you have it: the unluckiest woman on the internet. While we're all glad that she didn't hurt herself too badly, I think we can all agree that her escapades were absolutely hilarious.
