There's a lot of walking in
Game of Thrones. It's just something you have to live with when your time period only has horses as a faster option. There are dragons, but seeing as they are all under the ownership of one woman with a few armies under her control, it's best to stick to doing it the old-fashioned way.
All this walking has gotten a little ridiculous by this point, as the seventh season brought various characters together. As the next season is set to be the final batch of episodes, that means everyone needed to be in the right place for the final confrontation. This also meant various characters traveling from one side of the continent to the other in between scenes. There's a certain amount of leeway you have to give it, but even
huge fans of the series had to admit some examples were a little over the top.
Even before this penultimate season, characters have traveled huge distances. There's
Arya Stark, who ventured down from her home in the North to the southern city of King's Landing, before boarding a ship and crossing the sea. Then there are characters like Brienne of Tarth, who wandered the wilderness looking for Sansa and Arya for what felt like a hundred episodes.
But how far did these characters travel - and who traveled the furthest? As it turns out, the travel company Megabus figured out the exact distance each of the characters traversed during the show, revealing the person at the top of the pack.
Apparently over 125,000 miles have been covered in total since the beginning of the show, which is around five times the circumference of the Earth. I would have guessed that it would be Tyrion that took first place, but he didn't quite make it to the top spot. That honor goes to none other than... Theon Greyjoy.
Theon apparently covered 20,387 miles over the course of the show, which is surprising given how much time he spent locked in a cell by Ramsay Bolton. Coming up close behind is Daenerys, at 19,714 miles, who likely got a huge boost from her day trips beyond the North on the back of her dragon in the most recent season.
Apparently, the final season may see this ranking shake up as characters travel even further. John Bradley, who plays Samwell Tarly, said that:
"Each of the characters this year is placed in a completely alien environment at some point in the season that they've never been placed in before"
"The thrill is seeing how they react to it and how they respond… This season, I think, more than any other, is stretching these characters"
So we could see this list completely change by time 2019 comes around (yep, it's really that far away). With Jaime leaving King's Landing and potentially heading all the way to the North, he's likely to overtake the likes of Littlefinger. We can only wait and see.
