Elon Musk is now expressing regret over some of his recent comments about US President Donald Trump, following a very public and dramatic breakdown in their once-warm relationship, now known online as the 'divorce of the century'.

The falling out came after Musk, who had previously invested over $260 million in efforts to support Trump’s 2024 presidential bid, began lobbing increasingly sharp criticisms at the Republican leader on social media, Metro reports.

One of the most explosive claims Musk made involved allegations that Trump appears in classified government documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a statement that quickly reignited conspiracy theories and raised potential legal concerns.

Now, Musk appears to be softening his stance, at least somewhat.

“I regret some of my posts about the president this week. They went too far,” Musk wrote in a post on X early this morning. However, he didn’t specify which posts he was referring to.

In recent days, Musk has quietly deleted several of his anti-Trump posts, including one that hinted at support for the former president’s impeachment, as well as the post that connected Trump to Epstein.

According to individuals close to the billionaire, Musk’s initial frustration is beginning to cool. Some believe he may even be open to mending ties with Trump in the future.

Trump himself initially declared their relationship “over,” but has since struck a more neutral tone, telling reporters that he wouldn’t be opposed to hearing from Musk if the tech mogul reached out to offer well wishes.

Meanwhile, the White House has dismissed Musk’s Epstein-related claims outright.

The Independent reported how press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the remarks stemmed from Musk’s dissatisfaction with the Republican-backed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a major tax and spending proposal that did not include several of Musk’s preferred provisions.

“This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the bill because it does not include the policies he wanted,” Leavitt said.

“The president is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.”
