A mega-ranch in Wyoming known as ‘Pathfinder Ranch’ has hit the market at just under $80m, but any prospective buyer will be getting what they pay for.

The ranch is the size of a US state - bigger than some in fact - and four times the size of New York City.

In total, this gigantic property opportunity spans 916,076 acres, contains several 'units' of buildings, and occupies around one percent of the entirety of the state of Wyoming.

The company listing the sale describes it as a 'vast expanse of grasslands, sagebrush, river corridors, wildlife, and, simply, freedom' - and they might have a point.

Pathfinder Ranch comes with some serious real estate

Situated straight in the middle of the Ferris, Pedro, and Green mountain ranges - and not a million miles from Jeffree Star's yak ranch - this remarkable ranch is one of the largest commercial cattle ranches in the Rocky Mountains.

The crown jewel - apart from the stunning scenery - is the nine-bedroom, seven-bathroom Great Pathfinder Lodge, situated in the Two Crosses central unit, a 25,000-acre hub for the ranch.

The main lodge is a 6,579 square-foot mansion with all modern features, offset by the rustic charm of the cattle ranch.

But there is much more to Two Crosses than that.

Sand Creek Hunting Lodge boasts a mere six bedrooms and four (and a half) bathrooms, which should be more than enough for any visitors at 3,556 square feet.

Elsewhere in Two Crosses, there is a riding arena, seven employee houses, a church, and some shops.

In the Wooden Rifle unit on the eastern edge of the ranch, the Two Iron Ranch is to be found, boasting a conservation area to protect the native sage grouse - a medium-sized bird.

The ranch is bigger than LA and New York City combined

The history of Pathfinder Ranch goes back to the 1870s, and - if you look hard enough - there are carvings from 19th-century pioneers to be found at Independence Rock.

It is also situated at an intersection of the Pony Express and Oregon National Historic Trail, and butts up against the Devil’s Gate, a 370-foot deep canyon.

At the heart of the modern project is conservation, though.

Scott Williams, associate broker for Swan Land Company, which is organizing the sale, said: “You could describe Pathfinder Ranch as a grazing empire.

“It’s a vast expanse of grasslands, sagebrush, river corridors, wildlife, and, simply, freedom.

“You’re reminded of the grit and determination of the American spirit.

“It still lives on here.”

He continued: “It’s an incredible and rare opportunity for the modern-day cattle baron in the American West, and it will get the attention of the upper echelon of ranch buyers.

“It will attract ultrahigh-net-worth individuals who want to feed the world, or someone who loves conservation and wants to have some open space and fresh air.”

At almost $80m, there must only be a handful of potential buyers for Pathfinder Ranch, but whoever gets the keys will be purchasing their own slice of the American Dream.
