30 Of The Most Memorable Looks From The Oscars' Red Carpet

The Oscars are known to attract those from all across the world of popular media, music, TV, film, philanthropy, you name it. The red carpet is quite easily thought of in layman's terms as a catwalk and fashion show. Those who follow the esteemed event will struggle to disagree and will likely be distracted by the garments of past Oscars attendees anyway. And so as you have probably guessed by now, we are here to list, in no particular order, as usual, 30 red carpet-outfits from that have left a mark on the global beholders eager for a glimpse of these influential trendsetters! [post_page_title]#1 Keira Knightly[/post_page_title] At the 78th incarnation of the Oscars in 2006, Kierra Knightly was nominated for her role in Pride and Prejudice, and her attire for the evening was rather fitting. The British actress chose to wear something 70% classy matched 30% fancy, and it's safe to say, it went down well. A far cry from football shorts or pirate attire anyway! [caption id="attachment_4878" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#2 Nicole Kidman[/post_page_title] At the 2018 Oscars, the seminal Hollywood name that is Nicole Kidman chose to rock-up in this ambitious blue-number that is certainly memorable but in a way that I'm not quite sure how to articulate. The star has a tremendous habit to look great whatever she wears, but as much as she does here, this is still at least minorly questionable. [caption id="attachment_4879" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#3 Saoirse Ronan[/post_page_title] Another from the prestigious ceremonies 90th iteration in 2018, we have how to dress up and down simultaneously without overdoing it either. Ronan's dress is memorable for all the right reasons, simple, classy, and as much as I hate to use the term, pretty in pink. Saoirse Ronan seems well aware that sometimes, the classics and simplicity never go out of style. [caption id="attachment_4880" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#4 TimothŽe Chalamet[/post_page_title] Again in 2018, Interstellar star, TimothŽe Chalamet, chose to walk-up-and-down the red carpet in a crisp slim-fit suit that blended in well enough with the night's proceedings. It's a good job that he didn't opt for white shoes because that would be overkill. [caption id="attachment_4881" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#5 Jennifer Aniston[/post_page_title] At the 78th awards in 2006, the star-studded attendees and famous faces were graced by Jennifer Aniston who is memorable and beloved enough for her role as the ever-confused Rachel from Friends. The star, who never really seems to age much at all, chose to adorn a classy, simply dress for the evening and rocked it. [caption id="attachment_4882" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#6 Dolly Parton[/post_page_title] Still, in 2006, we have what Dolly Parton wore to 78th Annual Academy Awards. Did you expect anything less from the illustrious Country-singer and American household name? Do even try to say yes or answer that in anything other than a resounding agreement with my statement, now! All things considered, she looks fabulous! [caption id="attachment_4883" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#7 Nicole Kidman (Again)[/post_page_title] The year 2007 saw the 79th edition of the awards and also saw Nicole Kidman not only walk the carpet and own it as she usually does but become the carpet in her elegant yet ambitious dress. To be completely honest, I could easily do a list entirely dedicated to the star herself considering the variety in which she chooses to dress herself in at ceremonies such as this. [caption id="attachment_4884" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#8 Beyoncé Knowles[/post_page_title] At the very same 79th event in 2007, the stars were in abundance and Beyoncé, as usual, was eager to stand out and make her mark. Simple, yet standout and classy, the singer-superstar did what she does best like the icon she is for many. [caption id="attachment_4885" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#9 Halle Berry[/post_page_title] The 74th annual awards in 2002 saw Halle Berry wear something ambitious enough that it split critics and got slated in the online world perhaps a little unfairly. The unwritten rule - although I'm sure it is written somewhere - is that these awards are not for casual and or attire that is a little too normal. There are no rules, and Halle did a great job working through this mantra! [caption id="attachment_4886" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#10 Cameron Diaz[/post_page_title] Cameron Diaz wore this confusing, but not horrible, dress and the 74th Oscars ceremony in 2002. When I was scrolling through the near-inexhaustible archives of photos focused on this yearly event, I initially thought Diaz was wearing a strawberries and cream themed dress, but then I looked out the window and looked at the British rain and negated such wishful thinking and dreams of summer. [caption id="attachment_4887" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#11 Robin Williams[/post_page_title] I felt I had to put this one in honor of such a great man. Robin Williams in 2005 at the 77th annual shindig went for a twist on the traditional dress and owned it. Rest easy my good man. [caption id="attachment_4889" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#12 Prince[/post_page_title] Sticking with the same year above, we have another star that was lost in recent years, the iconic and unequivocally idiosyncratic, Prince. I mean, what else would he wear? Come on now. [caption id="attachment_4890" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#13 Sarah Jessica Parker[/post_page_title] In 2009, Sex In The City star, Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dress befitting of her tendency to look consistently glamourous. Sometimes, things are memorable because they aren't. Fashion is weird. [caption id="attachment_4893" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#14 Zoe Saldana[/post_page_title] Actress Zoe Saldana at the 82nd event 2010 wore perhaps my favorite on this list based on its tonal color-scheme alone! The American actress' dress was nothing overtly weird and wonderful in its shape or design, flash, maybe but that's as far as that went. However, her gradual tonal color choices saw her stand out even more away from her beaming smile. [caption id="attachment_4894" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#15 Jennifer Lopez[/post_page_title] J.Lo is another that warrants a list of her own, one that would absolutely have this image front and center. This one was taken from her attire in attendance at the 82nd Oscars in 2010. Jennifer is another on this list of stars in the sky that apparently doesn't age and looks exactly like the above to this day. Well, I mean, I would assume she's got changed a few hundred times. [caption id="attachment_4895" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#16 Scarlett Johansson[/post_page_title] At the 83rd iteration of the awards and fabled red carpet flaunt-fest, Scarlett Johansson showed the world how seamless her looking the part really is for her to achieve. As you'd expect, the now 35-year-old actress is another always manages to look amazing and yet, you guessed, DOESN'T AGE! [caption id="attachment_4896" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#17 will.i.am[/post_page_title] When I was scrolling through images of the 87th Academy Awards, I saw out of the corner of my eye, this human being and felt he had to go in. The Oscars and ceremonies like it are ample occasions for stars and attendees to flaunt their style and best attire in a manner that they have complete control over. Are you really surprised here? I'm not! Hats off will.i.am! [caption id="attachment_4897" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#19 Margot Robbie[/post_page_title] The Australian actress continued with her well-known legacy for looking stunning, classy and standout the ceremonies of 2015. And in the words of the great prophet Forrest Gump, that's all I have to say about that. [caption id="attachment_4898" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#20 Rachel Weisz[/post_page_title] However, to contrast much of the recent entries on this list, we have the other side of ambitious and one far nearer to plain damn weird. At the 91st edition, the most recent Oscars, Rachel Weiz caused a red alert. I don't get it. Each to their own but quite expectedly, it caused quite a stir on the fashionista realms of the interwebs. [caption id="attachment_4899" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#21 Linda Cardellini[/post_page_title] The previous example was placed strategically. For this next example, also from the 91st awards in 2019, takes us further up the fashionably weird scale. Enter, actress, Linda Cardellini. Is it a dress? Is she wearing it? Is it wearing her? Is it some sort of sentient symbiotic lifeform? So many questions. [caption id="attachment_4900" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#22 Salma Hayek[/post_page_title] In 2018, Salma Hayek, who is another with the uncanny ability to look stunning in either anything she wears or most of the time, with little to no effort compared to her contemporaries, got a lot of stick for wearing this. I don't get it, she's as effortlessly striking and memorable as she always is. But then again, what do I know? [caption id="attachment_4901" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#23 Uma Thurman[/post_page_title] The 76th annual Academy Awards saw Uma Thurman inspired by the attire of ancient Greece. What else do you want me to say? The stewards wit clipboards to the right clearly agree. [caption id="attachment_4902" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#24 Dianne Keaton[/post_page_title] In 2004, Dianne Keaton completely owned the red carpet with this Mafia-esque attire at the Oscars event. Is it memorable? Yes. Does it stand out? Yes. Is it a little abstract? Yes. Is it totally her? Hell yeah. [caption id="attachment_4903" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#25 Whoopi Goldberg[/post_page_title] At the 81st Oscars shindig that took place in 2009, Whoopi Goldberg wore this. And no one was surprised. [caption id="attachment_4905" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#26 John Travolta[/post_page_title] John Travolta is smart, suave, sexy, sophisticated. These are all words that are pretty generally associated with his name and to be honest, always have been. The Grease star, again, pretty generally, looks his best. Usually. It is time to be brutally honest now, at these ceremonies, most male stars tend to look remarkably similar, so when they do stand out, it's more than noticeable. What is going on with that chain? [caption id="attachment_4906" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#27 Mikey Rourke[/post_page_title] Please read the closing statement on the previous entry before scrolling. Read it? Good. Enter Mickey Rourke. I'm not saying he doesn't look good, because he absolutely and undeniably does! But yeah, as expected, the internet took to his outfit choice a little negatively. [caption id="attachment_4907" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#28 Celion Dion[/post_page_title] Ah, the '90s weren't they great! Well, so I'm told, having only been born in 1991, I can't recall too much more than, well, not a lot. Who knows what I got up to! Anyway, look at this one from 1999, via voicebox-star Celine Dion. Smart, sophisticated and really not what you'd think to see at such an event but there we go, the 90s! [caption id="attachment_4908" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#29 Janelle Monae[/post_page_title] The year 2017 saw Janelle Monae attend the proceedings in Hollywood-town with this ambitious, stand-out and quite frankly stunning number. The singer is known for owning her abstract attire on stage so why should it be any different on the prestigious red carpet? It shouldn't. At all. [caption id="attachment_4909" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption] [post_page_title]#30 Tonya Lewis Lee and Spike Lee[/post_page_title] Closing this list, we have an example from 2019 and the most recent festivities. Much like the other past events, the 91st Academy Awards saw a huge star-studded group full of the notorious names from Hollywood and further. As per usual, the garments adorned for such an event were nothing but interesting. [caption id="attachment_4910" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Credit: PA Images[/caption]
