Donald Trump tells Piers Morgan that he is not a "misogynist" in first international interview

Once upon a time, someone thought it would be a good idea to put two of the most controversial people on Earth in a room together and record their discussion for the whole world to enjoy. Thus, Piers Morgan's interview with President Donald Trump came to be. The Good Morning Britain co-host sat down with the president in order to discuss his first year in office, and how the British people feel about some of his actions during this time. They talked about Trump's decision to retweet doctored material from a racist right-wing group (which Morgan says Trump apologized for, but really he just said "I would certainly apologize, if you'd like me to do that"), Meghan Markle's engagement and upcoming wedding with Prince Harry, and the recent women's march. The president had a lot of say about all of this throughout their talk, but, on this final topic, Trump made a particularly questionable statement: he is not a feminist. [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/piersmorgan/status/957389820397084672]] The president claimed that he wasn't a feminist because he is "for everyone" - but that's sort of what feminism means. It's a movement that's primarily concerned with women, sure, but it's all about women's equality to men and other genders - and therefore the equality of everyone. Ok, so while it's not really news that a man who thinks he can just "grab [women] by the p***y" isn't a staunch supporter of women's rights, it is surprising that he was so adamant that he wasn't a misogynist. Writing for the Daily Mail, Morgan said, "So how does [Trump] feel about women who think he is the worst kind of sexist, misogynist pig? What message could he give to persuade them that he is for them, and not a part of the problem." In the interview between the pair, Trump addressed this, saying, "Well, I am for them [women], and I think a lot of them understand that." He went on to say:

"You know, I won many categories of women and the women vote in the election, and people were shocked to see it. I was running against a woman and I’m winning all of these categories. And I think I would do even better right now.

"Women have the best unemployment numbers that they’ve had in 17 years. And they’re doing tremendously in business, they’re doing tremendously in so many ways. And people are starting to see that."

Morgan then pressed Trump a little harder, and attempted to get him to acknowledge that he has certainly offended millions of women - whether he intended to or not.

"A lot of women I’ve spoken to about this interview said it would be great to hear the President, given some of the more disrespectful things that have been out there and the way you’ve spoken about women, to acknowledge that you had said things that perhaps you wouldn’t say now," said the presenter. "That you have also listened, as many men are listening right now; that you’ve changed, you’ve evolved as a man."

To which Trump responded: "Well, I think we have to evolve. If we don’t evolve, there’s something missing." So, not only did he avoid answering the question directly, he also proved that - once again - he has no interest in ensuring that women have equal rights and opportunity in America. And he wonders why women around the world have been marching with signs calling for his impeachment and wearing hats to remind him of his sickening comments. But let's not pretend he's done absolutely nothing for women. After all, he did allegedly give Stormy Daniels $130,000 to cover up the affair they had - so that's something, at least.
