Since
Eminem first shot to fame in the 1990s, his on-and-off relationship with his (twice) ex-wife Kim has frequently been the subject of his work. Songs such as When I'm Gone and Going Through Changes deal with their turbulent partnership, as well as the effect it had on their daughter, Hailie.
In fact, even though the couple separated 11 years ago, he still talks about Kim and uses their history as inspiration for his music. According to one review from Pitchfork of his latest album, Revival, the rapper is "clearly still tortured by his love for his child’s mother."
However, it seems that Eminem - otherwise known as Marshall Mathers - is finally looking to move past the relationship, and has been using dating apps in order to meet new people.
In an interview with Vulture, the 45-year-old musician revealed that he used Tinder for dates and hookups. Then, with a laugh, he added, "And Grindr. I also used to go to strip clubs."
However, he also said that dating has been tough for him. "Since my divorce, I’ve had a few dates and nothing’s panned out in a way that I wanted to make it public. Dating’s just not where I’m at lately," he said. And, given the nature of his and Kim's relationship, this isn't difficult to believe.
The couple originally met when Mathers was just 15 years old, and a lot has happened between them in the 30 years they've known one another. At present, however, the rapper claims he has a friendly relationship with his ex-wife.
Nevertheless, he seemed to enjoy the few dating experiences he has had in the last decade or so. "What can I say? Going to strip clubs is how I was meeting some chicks," he explained. "It was an interesting time for me."
Aside from looking for love, Eminem has channeled a lot of his recent efforts into expressing his
opinions on President Donald Trump. In the same interview with Vulture, the musician said:
"[Trump] makes my blood boil. I can’t even watch the news anymore because it makes me too stressed out. All jokes aside, all punchlines aside, I’m trying to get a message out there about him. I want our country to be great too, I want it to be the best it can be, but it’s not going to be that with him in charge."
He added:
"I don’t want any voters to get f****d; everyone’s trying to improve their lives. I just feel mad that Trump’s sold people a dream that’s never coming true. I want the division in this country to stop. And like I said, I most want people to take a second and think about what I’m saying."
Despite having been on his own for more than a decade now, Eminem claims that he is quite happy with where he's at. "Am I lonely?" he said. "No, I’m good."
Well, with his new album out, his newfound
political passion to focus on, and perhaps the odd Tinder date to hook up with, he seems to be doing just fine.
