Austin Butler has dedicated his Oscar nomination to the late Lisa Marie Presley, declaring "this is for her."

Lisa Marie Presley sadly died on January 12 aged 54 following a suspected cardiac arrest, though her official cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

She was the only child of the iconic singer Elvis Presley who he shared with his then-wife Priscilla, and the singer's life has recently been the subject of a biopic movie.

Elvis, starring Austin Butler, has been a hit with fans as it depicts the rise and untimely end of the King of Rock and Roll, winning Butler a Golden Globe for his performance.

The actor has today (January 24) been nominated for an Academy Award and dedicated the Oscars nod to the late Lisa Marie.

Moments after the nominations were revealed, Austin called up Today with Hoda and Jenna, where he revealed how he was feeling.

"It's sort of a bittersweet moment right now because I think of how much I wish she was here right now to get to celebrate with me," Austin began.

Austin continued: "It's the same thing I feel with Elvis; I wish that they could see these moments, you know? It's just sort of strange to celebrate at a time of such deep grief. But I sort of think of it as a way to honor her. This is for her."

Lisa Marie was present at the Golden Globe awards shortly before she passed away, where she celebrated Austin's win while declaring that she was "so happy."

Shortly before the awards, the 54-year-old was present at a screening of Elvis, where she revealed that her father would have been proud of what had been created.

She said: "I'm so overwhelmed by this film and the effect that it's had and what Baz [Luhrmann] has done, Austin's done. I'm so proud, and I know that my father [Elvis] would also be very proud. [...] I'm overwhelmed with gratitude, so thank you."

Austin is in the best actor category and is up against Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal, Bill Nighy, and Brendan Fraser, the latter of which is attending for the first time, much to the delight of his fans.

They're all deserving of the award, but we feel that Lisa Marie would be proud of Austin no matter what the outcome.
