Britney Spears has thanked fans involved in the #FreeBritney movement after her father was removed as her conservator after 13 years.
Countless fans of the pop icon have long campaigned for an end to the legal arrangement that has controlled Britney’s life and finances since 2008.
And now, over a decade since she was under the legal control of her father Jamie Spears, Britney couldn't believe her luck when a judge ruled that it was in her "best interests" that her dad was suspended from his role.
What's more, the judge said there will be a hearing next month to discuss fully terminating the conservatorship set for November.
Per Metro, Britney has since thanked her supporters, saying that she cried for two hours since hearing the news.
Taking to social media, the 'Toxic' hitmaker wrote: "#FreeBritney movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservatorship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it …"
In a follow-up tweet, she added: "I feel your hearts and you feel mine … that much I know is true !!!!!"
The singer said she was on "cloud 9" after the ruling, while her fans celebrated wildly outside the court building.
Britney’s fiancé Sam Asghari commented: "From a scale of 0-Britney how free are you?"
Britney's father Jamie has strongly protested against his removal from the conservatorship prior to the judge's ruling.
Per USA Today, the judge has replaced Jamie with John Zabel, who was chosen by Britney to oversee her finances until the end of the year, with the understanding that the conservatorship may come to a complete end before then.
The singer spoke out against her father in highly publicized court hearings in June and July, alleging in lengthy testimonies that she was "forced to take Lithium" as a "punishment" and that she was prevented from getting married or having a baby.
Britney also branded the conservatorship, and her father's role in it as "abusive".
