Actor Mckenna Grace sparks debate after revealing what she refuses to do in intimate scenes
Mckenna Grace has sparked a heated debate on social media after revealing the one type of scene she isn't comfortable filming.
The 20-year-old, who began acting as a child, recently opened up about the boundaries she has established when choosing roles.
Her comments came during a November 2 interview with Cosmopolitan, in which she discussed her upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which will be released in theatres on November 20.
Mckenna Grace reveals why she refuses to film nude scenes
During the interview, the Gifted actress was asked whether there were any roles she would refuse to accept.
Grace candidly confessed that she currently has no interest in appearing nude on camera or taking on heavily sexualized roles.
"At this point, I definitely don't do nudity or very hypersexual things. I respect anybody who can, but it's terrifying to me. I don't know if that'll ever change," she said.
She also clarified that her decision does not mean she will limit herself to family-friendly projects.
She pointed to her involvement in the Scream franchise and explained that she has no problem portraying characters in darker stories.
"It's not like I only do wholesome things - my character literally gets gutted by Ghostface in Scream - but my dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday," she added.
Her comments went viral on X, where users shared their opinions about her stance.
Some people defended the actress and argued that her boundaries should not be up for public debate.
One user wrote: "The amount of people upset about this is weird…if she's not comfortable with doing nude or sexual scenes at the age of 20, that's fine."
Another person supported her decision, particularly given that she grew up in the entertainment business: "Good for her. Especially coming from a child-actress background, she gets to decide what she's comfortable with."
Meanwhile, others questioned why the subject had become a topic of public discussion in the first place.
"Why are we asking this to a 20-year-old who is known for her work as a child? This is weird," a commentor said.
"It's so weird that she has to explain not wanting to be naked on camera. It's a creepy world we live in," a second chimed in.
Amanda Seyfried also reveals why she avoids sex scenes
Grace isn't the only Hollywood actress to have spoken openly about her discomfort with filming intimate scenes.
Amanda Seyfried, 40, once revealed that she had to turn down a TV project because it required her to film frequent sex scenes.
Speaking on a panel hosted by Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 4, she said: "I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex," per People.
"Doesn’t matter [who it’s with] … I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now," she continued. "Maybe if [the project] came along again [at a later point], maybe I’d be in a different space. But I don’t wanna deal with being naked with a stranger."
The Mean Girls star revealed that becoming a mother has influenced the projects she chooses and made her more comfortable setting boundaries.
"I have kids now who are paying attention to what I do," she said.
Seyfried is a mom to her daughter Nina, nine, and her son Thomas, six, whom she shares with her estranged husband, Thomas Sadoski.
She reflected on her earlier career, confessing that filming romantic scenes once felt like an ordinary, and sometimes enjoyable, part of acting.
"Our jobs are weird. And as I get older, it gets weirder. We have to be romantic with people that we’re not romantic with," she said.
"Sometimes it’s great. Sometimes it’s really uncomfortable. But I can’t believe back in the day I was just like, ‘We gotta make out. Great! This is awesome. I know how to make out.'
"And it used to be so fun. It was a non-thing. It was like, ‘I get to make out with a hot person today … And they’re paying me,'" she added.
