Regrettably, women are still being held to unfair and unrealistic body ideals. In fact, there's an argument to be made that famous women are now left more exposed to these ridiculous criticisms than ever before. No longer just forced to contend with paparazzi shots accompanied by snide or overly-sexualised captions, now, every time they post on Instagram there is the inevitable influx of comments about their appearance.

Women like Bebe Rexha, though, are writing their own narratives. Fed up with the industry's archaic sentiments, Rexha has often spoken out on Instagram when she's been forced to contend with body-shaming and sexist comments. These messages that confront the reality of such situations are important - we all feel the pressure to conform to certain ideas of what 'beauty' should look like, and celebrities such as Bebe Rexha pointing out the hypocrisy and impossibility of these ideals is helping countless people to feel comfortable in the skin their in.

In fact, even on the Instagram post Rexha uploaded to celebrate her 30th birthday, she had an inspiring message of body positivity, not to mention an absolutely fierce photo to go with it.

Taking to Instagram to post the black and white picture, which shows the singer doing the splits in her underwear whilst applying makeup pre-show, Rexha wrote;

"This is what 30 looks like. My #BirthdaySuit Self love. Body positivity. Unapologetically me. Pre-show stretch and lipstick application #Not20Anymore"

And she was met by a host of adoring comments from her many fans over the candid image with the perfect caption.

Just recently, the singer posted an image of herself in lingerie, as the perfect riposte to a music executive who, Rexha says, told her she was "too old to be sexy".

She wrote;

"I recently had a music executive tell me that I was getting too old and that my brand was 'confusing.' Because... I’m a songwriter and I post sexy pics on my Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are suppose to do, especially for my age. I’m 29. I’m fed up with being put in a box. I make my own rules. I’m tired of women getting labeled as 'hags' when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age."

Bebe Rexha is proof that you can live your life on your own terms, without getting bogged down in the mire of what other people think you 'should' be doing. Hopefully, she keeps inspiring us with her outlook on life for many years to come!
