Jamie Spears has agreed to finally step down as his daughter Britney's conservator after more than 13 years.
According to The Guardian, the 69-year-old father of the pop icon has assented to relinquish control of Britney's estate, despite the fact that his lawyer insisted that there are "no actual grounds" for him to do so.
Court documents filed on Thursday, August 12, show that Jamie Spears "does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests."

The documents add: "Mr. Spears intends to work with the court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator."
These filings continue that Jamie Spears is willing to step down "when the time is right", but asked a judge to deny the petition seeking his removal kickstarted by the #FreeBritney movement.
This comes after the 39-year-old singer accused her father in a virtual court statement of sustained abusive behavior since he first assumed control of her finances back in 2008.
Britney further alleged that her father's control of her life meant that she was unable to bear any more children and that she was forced to take lithium as punishment for any perceived transgressions.

In an emotional speech made to the Los Angeles Superior Court back in June, Britney compared her current situation to that of a sex trafficking victim, stating:
"I want to end this conservatorship without being evaluated. I deserve to have a life, I've worked my whole life. I deserve to have a two to three-year break."
She continued: "I worked seven days a week, no days off, which in California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking.
"Making anyone work against their will, taking all their possessions away - credit card, cash, phone passport - and placing them in a home where they work with the people who live with them."
Commenting on these revelations in a later statement, #FreeBritney activist Megan Radford told the BBC: "Everything she said was absolutely heartbreaking and it was actually even worse than I really thought it was.
"But I'm so thankful that her truth is out there and it cannot be denied anymore."
