Chappell Roan's stylist has spoken out after the singer shocked viewers with her red carpet look at the Grammys.
The 27-year-old songstress, known for her eclectic style, stepped onto the red carpet in a custom sheer Mugler gown that left little to the imagination.
The gown featured a transparent bodice with maroon fabric draped from faux nipples and nipple rings, and flowed into a dramatic train, revealing her black underwear.
The look was a nod to Mugler’s iconic spring/summer 1998 “Jeu de Paume” couture collection, and was reimagined by designer Miguel Castro Freitas for his Spring/Summer 2026 line.
While the look undoubtedly stunned onlookers, it also sparked a flurry of reactions online.
One commenter praised the 'Pink Pony Club' artist's boldness, saying she looked “completely stunning," while another joked, “It would hurt like hell if she stepped on her dress."
A third posted: “I’m confused by the dress. Where are her nipples? What is the dress attached to?”
Stylist Genesis Webb Responds
In response to the confusion surrounding the look, Roan's stylist, Genesis Webb, took to Instagram to clarify the details behind the ensemble.
She explained that the dress was not as “casual” as some may have assumed, revealing that the nipple rings and faux nipples were prosthetics. “This isn’t casual. They’re prosthetics, don’t take it down!!” Webb wrote in the caption.
She also credited the designers and other collaborators, adding, “Chappell wears custom @muglerofficial on red carpet for the @grammys <3 Custom tattoos by @puppypuppyplaytime. Jewelry by @buccellatimilan.”
Webb has been Roan's stylist for several years. Her creations have included memorable looks such as Roan’s viral Statue of Liberty performance and the stunning Swan Lake ensemble worn on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Webb did an interview with Service95, where she revealed her journey as a stylist is deeply rooted in her personal experiences growing up in Oklahoma City.
Feeling “really separate from the world,” she found inspiration in the creative works of others, citing the 2011 Alexander McQueen documentary "McQueen and I" as a pivotal moment in her career.
“It will never be something I don’t think back on,” she told the outlet. “I rewatch it every year. It resets me.”
Known for her personal aesthetic, which blends moody mirror selfies with chaotic behind-the-scenes shots, Webb’s style often contrasts with her clients'.
Her wardrobe leans toward “anti-fashion” with an appreciation for dark, brooding, and boundary-pushing designs by artists like Rick Owens and Ann Demeulemeester.
The stylist was asked what her favourite styling Moment was, and she said: "Chappell [Roan]’s look for Bonnaroo [music festival] is the most full-circle and most sentimental for me."
"She wore Chloë Sevigny’s nurse outfit from [the 2003 film] Party Monster. I went to Bonnaroo for the first time exactly 10 years prior, when I was 16. It was such a different time for me, and I was making a lot of mistakes while living a very difficult life at home."
"I watched Party Monster all the time to escape what I was living. During Chappell’s performance, I thought about how different my life was and how I would be so, so proud of myself if I saw what I was doing at 16. It was really special," she added.
We can't wait to see Roan's next look!
