Star of this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, Bad Bunny, looked unrecognisable at Monday’s Met Gala as he arrived at the event with grey hair, a grey beard, and a walking stick, leaving people confused about who was under the makeup.
The Puerto Rican rapper, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, looked so different that some spectators even mistook him for another celebrity.
He took the character very seriously, hobbling up the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art and leaning on a walking stick to pose for photographs.
Bunny’s very impressive makeup aged him by around 50 years, his grey wig and wrinkled hands making the 32-year-old singer look like an octogenarian.
Fans and critics alike flocked to social media to share their thoughts on the very divisive look.
One X user said: “Superbowl aged him 60 years lol.”
While another added: “Sorry but no I don’t like it,”
In support of the LA CANCIÓN singer, one social media user said, “For me, it was a critique showing that aging can also be beautiful.”
Other, less supportive people were quick to point out that he looked like another celebrity who is well known for altering their appearance for comedic purposes.
“Turns out, Bad Bunny was Will Ferrell all along. Well played, Will,” someone commented under a picture of Bad Bunny making his Met Gala entrance.
Another person agreed, chiming in with, “Looks like Will Ferrell dressed as an old Bad Bunny.”
Many other people then swarmed the comments with gifs and stills of Will Ferrell as fashion designer Mugatu in the 2001 film Zoolander.
The next most controversial costume at the gala was Heidi Klum’s living statue. Famed for her extravagant and bizarre Halloween costumes, the model and presenter transformed herself into a literal sculpture and looked as though she was crafted entirely from marble.
The costume, which looked like a naked sculpture draped in a fabric, shocked spectators, with one X user saying,“This looks more creepy than creative.”
However, many people praised her for sticking to the theme, with one person writing: “Finally someone who understood the assignment, Heidi didn’t just wear the theme, she became the art. Living marble statue is an insane commitment.”
