Harry Potter series child stars’ huge HBO salaries ‘revealed’
The huge HBO salaries for the child stars of the new Harry Potter series have been revealed.
Dominic McLaughlin, 12, who will play Harry Potter, along with Arabella Stanton, 11, and Alastair Stout, 12, as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, are each said to be earning £500,000 ($661K) for the first series.
That works out at around £79,000 (over $104K) per episode for the newcomers, who beat more than 32,000 other children to land the iconic roles.
A source told The Sun: "This is a whopping payday for three kids who haven't even hit their teenage years yet - and it's just the beginning...
"They're being paid £500,000 for the first series.
"If they keep this up, they're on track to be multi-millionaires before they turn 18."
"It's a lot of money for young kids to be handed overnight but they're about to become three of the most famous children in the world," the insider added.
Hype Around The New Harry Potter Series
The excitement around the series is already huge, with HBO dropping a first-look trailer that has smashed records.
The promo garnered more than 277 million organic views in its first 48 hours, making it the most-watched trailer in HBO and HBO Max history.
Fans have also been given glimpses of the story, which will follow Harry from his hard life with the Dursleys to discovering the wizarding world after receiving his Hogwarts letter on his 11th birthday.
The trailer teases his first meeting with Hagrid, his arrival at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and even hints at new scenes, including moments at a Muggle school.
An official image released shortly after showed Harry from behind in his Gryffindor Quidditch uniform with "POTTER 7" on the back, holding his Nimbus 2000 broomstick.
Social Media Reactions
Fans have been quick to share their excitement online following the trailer and first-look images.
One person commented: "IM CRYINGGGgg this is soooo good! I CANNOT WAIT".
Another wrote: "Brooooo I’m soo freaking pumped for this!!!"
A third added: “I'M SO EXCITED I CAN'T FOCUS ON ANYTHING ELSE," while a fourth said: “Potterheads around the world let's go.”
The show, which is set to debut at Christmas 2026, will adapt one book per season across a planned seven-series run, with season two already in development.
The new cast are stepping into roles previously made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, who was paid $1.3 million for the first Harry Potter film before earning $19 million by the sixth instalment, eventually making around $124 million from the franchise.
Alongside the young leads, the series will feature established names including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape.
However, the project has not been without controversy.
Author JK Rowling’s views have sparked backlash, with some cast members distancing themselves.
There have also been safety concerns, with HBO confirming a "serious security team" is in place after Essiedu received racist death threats.
HBO President Casey Bloys said: "With all actors on any kind of big IP shows - and this is obviously one of those where you’ve got, you know, passionate fans, people with a lot of opinions - it can get scary in places," per The Independent.
"So for any show like that, we anticipated it and tried to have training, you know, best practices in terms of social media and how to handle it," he added.
"And obviously, we’ve got a serious security team. So unfortunately, it was something that we thought might happen and we just try to be as careful as we can."
