Justin Timberlake has voiced his support for Britney Spears after yesterday's court hearing in which the 39-year-old pop star asked a judge to end her 13-year conservatorship.

The 'Toxic' singer made a series of explosive allegations about the conservatorship including a claim that she is not allowed to get married or have a baby, that she was forced to perform live and that she was forced to take lithium against her will.

Timberlake, who dated the singer in the years between 1998 to 2002, tweeted in support of his ex: "After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time. Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was."

The Friends With Benefits star continued: "What’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body.

"No one should EVER be held against their will… or ever have to ask permission to access everything they’ve worked so hard for.

"[Justin's wife Jessica Biel] and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live."

Justin's support for his former girlfriend comes after the ex-NSYNC member was widely criticized for his treatment of Britney - particularly in the wake of their split.

Britney has been under the control of her conservatorship since 2008 when she was hospitalized over concerns about her mental state. It was then that her father Jamie was placed in charge of her finances and personal affairs.

Jamie and his lawyer Vivian Lee Thoreen made a virtual appearance at the hearing as Jamie said in a statement that he was "sorry to see his daughter in so much pain" and "loves his daughter and misses her very much."

Thoreen said in a statement to People earlier this year: "Any time Britney wants to end her conservatorship, she can ask her lawyer to file a petition to terminate it; she has always had this right but in 13 years has never exercised it.

"Britney knows that her daddy loves her, and that he will be there for her whenever and if she needs him, just as he always has been – conservatorship or not."
