Keith Urban’s ‘cocaine clause’ revealed as details of Nicole Kidman divorce settlement emerge
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have officially ended their 19-year marriage, following their surprise announcement in September. A judge in Nashville, Tennessee, has granted the divorce after reviewing the couple’s settlement on asset division and child custody.
Kidman filed for divorce in the fall, citing “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences” as the cause. The two have two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15, and Kidman will be the primary residential parent moving forward.
Though the divorce settlement includes a fair distribution of assets and custody arrangements, one aspect that has captured public attention is the so-called "cocaine clause."
Rumors had circulated that the clause was part of the couple’s prenuptial agreement, but it appears that no such provision exists in the finalized divorce documents.
What is the 'cocaine clause'?
Reports from sources like Radar Online suggested that if Urban had remained sober throughout the marriage, he would have been entitled to a payment of $600,000 for each year of their marriage.
Given the couple’s 19-year marriage, that would mean Urban could have received up to $11.4 million. However, with the divorce now finalized, it remains unclear whether this clause was ever truly part of their prenuptial agreement.
According to Page Six, it’s also uncertain whether Kidman and Urban had a formal prenuptial agreement at all. The details of their financial settlement indicate that both parties agreed to divide their assets, including investments, bank accounts, and personal property, equally.
A look back at their relationship
Urban and Kidman’s relationship began in 2005 when they met in Los Angeles, and they were married in Sydney the following year. Throughout their marriage, the couple often appeared together at red carpet events, with Kidman supporting Urban at music events and Urban accompanying her to the Oscars.
This divorce marks the end of their two-decade relationship, which included a blending of their careers and family lives.
This marriage was Urban’s first, while Kidman had previously been married to Tom Cruise, with whom she shares two older children.
