Tom Cruise has reportedly weighed in on the sudden breakup between his ex-wife Nicole Kidman and country music star Keith Urban, and according to insiders, he isn’t exactly surprised.
Cruise, now 63, was married to Kidman from 1990 to 2001, and sources claim he sees the couple’s split as “karma” for how Kidman handled their own highly publicized breakup more than two decades ago.
According to International Business Times, an insider says Cruise still remembers the fallout from their divorce, which famously painted Kidman as the sympathetic figure and left him taking the brunt of the criticism.
The insider explained that Cruise never forgot the public reaction to their split.
“When Tom and Nicole split, he caught all the blame and she got all the sympathy. He was painted as the bad guy ... that stuck with him for years,” the source said.
They added that Kidman’s public appearances at the time only made things worse.
“Tom was really stung by the way Nicole handled their break-up. She went on TV, made digs about his height, and painted herself as the victim, while he stayed silent and took the hits.”

The source also claimed that Cruise feels “proven right” now that Kidman’s second marriage has ended.
“It annoyed him when this guy was painted as this saintly figure who’d swooped in on a white horse, so to speak, and rescued Nicole from the hellish memory of their marriage,” they said.
Although Cruise reportedly feels some sympathy for her situation, he also believes the split reflects what he always thought about the relationship.
“Bottom line: He thought they were a hyped up couple who clearly had very little in common from the get-go – now he's been proved right.”
Kidman and Urban shocked fans when they announced their separation after 19 years together.
Their marriage, which began in 2006, had long been seen as one of Hollywood’s more stable relationships.
But sources close to the couple say their demanding schedules contributed to a growing distance.
Urban has spent significant time on the road touring, while Kidman has maintained a packed film schedule. Insiders claim this created a “lack of intimacy” that slowly strained the marriage.
In recent weeks, additional reports have suggested Urban may be going through what insiders describe as a “midlife crisis,” leading to “confusing choices” and emotional unpredictability.
According to RadarOnline, Urban felt boxed in by the marriage and was the one who ultimately made the call to end things.
While early reports said Kidman was “blindsided,” she was the one who filed the paperwork, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

After nearly two months of silence, Urban made a surprise return to social media to promote his new U.S. reality series, The Road, hosted by Blake Shelton.
The show follows rising country performers competing for a spot on his tour. In a clip shared online,
Urban reflected on the loneliness of touring life, describing moments when he felt “completely lonely and miserable” waking up on a bus in the middle of nowhere.
Kidman and Urban share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
For now, the reasons behind their split continue to generate speculation – and, apparently, reactions from famous exes watching from a distance.

After nearly two decades together, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated. Reports surfaced this week that the Oscar-winning actress and the country music star have quietly ended their 19-year marriage.
The pair, who first met in 2005 at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles, quickly became one of Hollywood’s most admired couples. They announced their engagement less than a year later and married in an intimate ceremony in Sydney in June 2006.
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, share two daughters (Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14) while Kidman also has two older children, Isabella Jane and Connor, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
According to reports, Kidman officially filed for divorce on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences.” While news of the split only recently became public, sources suggest the couple had been living apart since early summer.
Insiders close to the family said the separation came after months of strain linked to their demanding schedules. Urban’s ongoing tour and Kidman’s film commitments reportedly made it difficult for the pair to spend time together, leading to increasing distance between them.
Kidman and Urban’s marriage has long been admired for its warmth and stability, but friends say that their careers often kept them in different parts of the world. Urban has spent much of 2024 on tour, including dates across the United States and Australia, while Kidman has been filming a series of international projects.
Despite their professional success, the distance reportedly took a toll. Those close to the couple say Kidman made every effort to repair the relationship before deciding to file for divorce. She is said to have kept the situation private for months, focusing on maintaining normalcy for their children.
“Nicole has always been deeply committed to her family,” one insider noted, per Marie Claire. “She’s balancing a demanding career with motherhood and continues to put her kids first.”
As of this week, neither Kidman nor Urban has made a public statement about their separation. Both stars remain focused on their professional obligations; Kidman with upcoming film projects and Urban continuing his tour schedule.
Fans of the couple have expressed sadness over the news, with many noting that Kidman and Urban had long appeared to be one of Hollywood’s most grounded partnerships.
The pair has previously spoken about the importance of communication and family time, even amid their hectic schedules. Their separation marks the end of a significant chapter in both their lives; one defined by love, resilience, and shared achievements.

Keith Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman have split up after 19 years together, but the cracks may have started appearing before then.
A resurfaced comment made by Urban to journalists last year might have hinted at something else going on in the celebrity pair’s relationship.
The latest news on the couple’s pending divorce has just confirmed something that may have been in the post.
Musician Urban and his movie star wife were the darlings of Hollywood for nearly two decades.
The pair - despite having disagreements over some of Kidman’s steamier scenes - appeared to be a pretty strong couple.
Even comments from one of her youthful co-stars couldn’t derail them.
Until now, that is.
With the pair separated and set to divorce, which could prove to be an interesting legal battle if claims about a ‘cocaine clause’ in the agreement are to be believed, minds have been cast back to earlier encounters with the pair, and to whether the signs were there to read, despite not being immediately clear.
In the case of one journalist from The Times, the comment was simply: “I just don’t want to give you guys a headline about my wife.”
According to Times commissioning editor for culture and books Ed Potton: “The signs were there, flashing in neon, when I spoke to Keith Urban a year ago.
“Sitting in his sunlit garden in Nashville, the country singer was charm personified until the conversation turned (well, until I turned it) to Nicole Kidman, his much more famous spouse.”
Potton continued: “Urban chatted engagingly about the album he was plugging, But soon as Kidman’s name came up, however, the shield was raised.”
The pair, who share two daughters, have reportedly been living apart for months before this news emerged, and Urban has spoken candidly in the past about problems he faced with addiction.
In a heartfelt speech at a June 2024 gala, he said: “We got married in 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens,
“Four months into a marriage, and I'm in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us.”
He added: “Nic pushed through every negative voice. I'm sure even some of her own, and she chose love."
However, the strain over roles that Kidman played - often ones that included sex scenes - took a toll on their relationship.
He even ended an interview earlier this year because of a question about his wife’s work, specifically with Zac Efron.
Papers filed in Nashville report that the pair eventually decided to split because of ‘marital difficulties and irreconcilable difficulties’.
A parenting plan document states: “The mother and father will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent, and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced,
“They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent.
“They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”

Nicole Kidman has spoken out for the first time since her divorce from Keith Urban.
The pair split late last year, with their divorce finalized in early January 2026.
The pair, who share two daughters, 17-year-old Sunday Rose and 15-year-old Faith Margaret, decided to go their separate ways in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences.
The split caused quite a bit of controversy, with some speculating about whether Urban had quickly moved on, and even suggesting that there might have been some strange clauses in their pre-nuptial agreement based around Urban’s substance misuse past.
Now, 58-year-old Kidman has spoken out about the end of the marriage for the first time, sitting down to chat about her upcoming project, the Practical Magic sequel, as well as Prime Video series Scarpetta.
She was asked if she was ‘doing alright’ by the interviewer and responded: "I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good.”
Kidman went on to say that she is ‘grateful’ for her family and ‘keeping them as is and moving forward’.
“That’s that,” she concluded.
On the split from Urban, she further added: "Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, 'We are a family,' and that’s what we’ll continue to be.
“My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women."
Kidman and the music star, 58, met back in 2005 before marrying the next year in 2006.
Those comments about her divorce came after a question from Variety about whether ‘every year’ is her year.
She opened up: “Well, not last year. I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.”
Asked if she is now ready to emerge, she said: "Now I’m in a place of saying, '2026. Here we go.' I have Practical Magic with [Sandra Bullock]. I’ll be in full witch mode."
The pair’s divorce went through on January 6, citing ‘’experienced marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences’.
The couple agreed how to divide up their life together and Kidman was granted custody of the two children, although both sides agreed to keep joint decision-making about their daughters’ lives and futures.

Nicole Kidman has offered a rare glimpse into how she’s doing as her divorce from Keith Urban continues to play out publicly.
During a new conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine, the Oscar winner shared a short but telling update on her emotional state.
Kidman and Grande sat down for a wide-ranging discussion that touched on their current projects, personal lives, star signs, and recent reads.
Grande is celebrating the release of the second Wicked film, while Kidman revealed she completed filming a sequel to Practical Magic over the summer.
She also shared that she’s currently reading a thriller written by Reese Witherspoon.
When Grande opened the interview by asking how she was doing, Kidman replied simply: “I’m hanging in there.”
While the interview remained light for the most part, Kidman’s brief comment at the start stood out following the intense personal challenges she has faced in recent months.
Kidman’s divorce from Keith Urban was confirmed earlier this fall after nearly two decades together. Records show she filed on September 30, ending one of Hollywood’s most closely watched marriages.

Coverage of the split intensified after reports surfaced about a so-called “cocaine clause” in their prenuptial agreement.
The clause stated that if Urban, who has struggled with addiction in the past, remained cocaine-free during the marriage, he would receive $600,000 for each year of sobriety.
Over 19 years, that amount surpasses $11 million, according to the London Evening Standard.
Urban has spoken openly about his history with addiction and credited Kidman for helping him confront it. In a 2010 interview with Oprah Winfrey, he recalled an intervention Kidman initiated shortly before their wedding.
“I’m just so glad she didn’t [leave],” Urban said.
“She made a decision to turn around and initiate ultimately this intervention, and it was done in such a way that the love in that room at that moment was just right. I was like, ‘Put the cuffs on, let’s go.’”
He later praised Kidman again during her AFI Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony, reflecting on his time in rehab early in their marriage.
“Four months into a marriage, and I’m in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us,” Urban said.
“Nic pushed through every negative voice – I’m sure even some of her own – and she chose love.”
While Kidman has kept the specifics of the divorce private, her four-word update suggests she’s navigating the difficult transition with resilience.
As the legal process continues, she remains focused on her career, upcoming projects, and maintaining her privacy.
