Kevin Federline hit with six-figure debt after Britney Spears stops monthly payments
The ex-husband of Toxic singer Britney Spears has been in grave financial trouble since payments from his A-list ex have dried up.
Kevin Federline, 48, a retired dancer and the father of the former couple's two children, has been slapped with a lawsuit over a staggering credit card debt.
He owes at least $117,704 total to City National Bank, spanning a credit card, a line of credit, and an overdraft line, according to documents obtained by Page Six.
Federline received a huge amount of money from Spears over the years
For the years that Federline raised Sean Preston and Jayden James in Hawaii, Federline received $40,000 a month in child support, but when the elder brother turned 18 in 2023, the payments were reduced to $20,000. They continued until the younger brother finished high school a couple of years later.
Despite five-figure payments sounding like more than enough to support two children, Federline claimed in his memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” that the security required and maintaining a standard of living the boys experienced with Spears, “easily ran well over $40,000 a month.”
He added: “The money was gone almost as soon as it came in."
According to the lawsuit, Federline was given until August 2026 to pay his credit card debt, but his personal line of credit was due in June 2025, and his overdraft was due the previous April.
To make matters worse for the empty nester, Federline was expected to pay the accrued interest: 20.5% on the credit card, 7.5% on the line of credit, and 18% on the overdraft.
The broke father of six met and married Spears in 2004. They welcomed their first child, Sean Preston Federline, now 21, in September 2005. Almost exactly a year later, Spears gave birth to their second son, Jayden James Federline, now 20.
However, the couple filed for divorce in November 2006, and their split was finalized in July 2007.
Federline also has four other children with two different women.
Spears is trying to become closer with her estranged children
In the years following the dissolution of her conservatorship, Spears has been open about the fractured relationship with her two sons, who have spent most of their lives in the custody of their father.
It seems that as they enter adulthood, the troubled star is attempting to rebuild a relationship with her sons.
Sean was reunited with Spears on a yacht getaway earlier this year, with the pair sharing snaps on social media of the pop princess with both of her sons.
Following his reunion with his mother, Sean Preston Federline has now changed his name on Instagram - from Sean Preston to Sean P Spears, according to reports from TMZ.
