There's no doubt that Mean Girls is one of the most beloved comedies ever made. It has a stellar cast, a relatable story, and is so quotable that nearly everyone knows the whole script off by heart. There was a sequel, but very few people involved in the original movie featured, and most fans see it as nothing more than a pale imitation of the first installment.
But if you're a major Mean Girls fan then I have some good news for you: actress Lindsay Lohan, who played the original protagonist Cadie way back in 2004, has opened up about the possibility of starring in a sequel in a brand-new interview!
Have a look at the trailer for the original Mean Girls below:Speaking on the Facebook podcast Lights Out With David Spade, the 33-year-old actress stated: "I should probably get back to doing movies at some point. I think I was hanging on to [Mean Girls] for a really long time."
She continued: "I wanted to come back with a Mean Girls 2. To work with Tina [Fey], and the whole crew again, and [director] Mark Waters. That was really what I wanted. I was excited to do that. But that's all in their hands really. So that would definitely be an exciting thing."
It sounds like Tina Fey herself also has fond memories of the movie. Speaking at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to kick off the national tour of the musical version of Mean Girls, Fey stated: "Some of the material in Mean Girls was about this period in my life when I felt like I was an outsider. The stuff that was pent up in me as a teenage girl is all in the show."
She added: "In my teenage years, I was obsessing about people that I was jealous of, so I think I learned that lesson slowly over time. It was like:'I don’t want to feel like I ate poison anymore.' And then I figured out that I could just stop judging others."
