When Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly got engaged in 2022, the moment captured the public's attention. The couple, known for their intense and unconventional romance, shared their milestone on social media. However, the unique piece of jewelry that marked the occasion carried a literal sting.
The rockstar rapper commissioned a custom piece that was beautiful but came with a sharp twist. He designed the ring specifically to cause physical pain if Fox ever tried to remove it from her finger.
The gesture reflected the intense, sometimes painful nature of their bond. While it was celebrated as a milestone for the actress, the custom design meant that any attempt to remove the piece would come with a physical cost.
The couple originally met in 2020 on the set of the serial killer film Midnight in the Switchgrass. Fox later described an instant connection with the musician during an interview with GQ Style.
"It was obvious from second one what it was going to be," she explained. "I did not anticipate walking right into my soulmate like that. I was obviously over the way I had been living, and those paths lined up, those doors opened. It was [as if] all the obstacles that had kept us apart all those years [had been removed] and we were able to finally intersect."
Two years after that initial meeting, MGK proposed with a diamond and emerald ring designed by Stephen Webster. He later explained the mechanics and philosophy behind the piece to Vogue, revealing that the bands were made of thorns.
"The concept is that the ring can come apart to make two rings. When it’s together, it’s held in place by a magnet," he told the publication. "So you see how it snaps together? And then it forms an obscure heart. And you see this right here? The bands are actually thorns. So if she tries to take it off, it hurts…" He added, "Love is pain!"
The design was put to the test when Fox eventually confirmed that their wedding plans were off. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the actress shared that they had ended their engagement.
"I think that what I’ve learned from being in this relationship is that it’s not for public consumption," she explained. "I think, as of now, I don’t have a comment on the status of the relationship, per se. What I can say is [he] is what I refer to as being my ‘twin soul’ and there will always be a tether to him, no matter what. I can’t say for sure what the capacity will be, but I will always be connected to him somehow. Beyond that, I’m not willing to explain."
Despite the end of their engagement and a period of intense relationship rumors, the pair surprised fans late in 2024 by announcing they were expecting a child together. Fox shared the news on Instagram with the caption, "Nothing is ever really lost. Welcome back."
However, a report from People indicated that the couple split up shortly after the announcement. The couple welcomed their daughter, Saga Blade, on March 27, 2025
Sharing the news on social media alongside a video of the infant's hand, he wrote, "She’s finally here!! Our little celestial seed."
