Miley Cyrus is always a treasure on social media. Unlike other celebs, who are only ever trying to show the glamorous, stylish sides of themselves, Miley is only too happy to be self-deprecating and show her more goofy side. Who can forget when she made this NSFW post over Valentine's Day, or revealed something pretty NSFW about her husband Liam Hemsworth.
She's also not afraid to have a little bit of fun with her friends and co-stars, and recently ribbed her pal Shawn Mendes, with whom she shared a powerful duet while attending the Grammys. In case you've been living under a rock for the past few days, you might have missed out on Shawn's new (and pretty racy) shirtless Calvin Klein ad. Suffice to say, the pics set the internet on fire over the weekend, and quite a lot of Mendes' fans have openly expressed just how thirsty they are for him.
Since Mendes posted his ab-licious teaser pic on social media, it's really captured the public's imagination, and now boasts over 8 million likes to date. However, just in case he ended up with a swollen head, Miley was quick to burst his bubble. She promptly took to Twitter to share an image macro of her own invention, in which she playfully compared an old photo of herself with Shawn's new Calvin Klein ad. Miley also captioning the photo: "Don't leave your children with Miley."
Sadly, quite a lot of media attention has previously been focused on Mendes' sexuality, rather than his music. Many publications have speculated that he might be gay in the past - something which Shawn himself appears to consider to be irrelevant. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Mendes stated: "I’d like to say I don’t care about it, but that’s not true. This massive, massive thing for the last five years about me being gay. In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone - like a girl - in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
However, fans of the singer have appreciated his candid honesty, and have taken to social media to show their support. For instance, one fan tweeted: "Can y’all stop forcing Shawn Mendes to feel obligated to be gay and like he’s not gay and if he was grow tf up! It’s stupid when y’all try to force your own sexuality on others it’s disgusting and can be uncomfortable. [sic]"
Meanwhile, someone else added: "Masculinity does not equal sexuality. You can be straight and 'feminine.' You can be gay and 'masculine.' Stop pushing toxic masculinity on other people who don't fit your idea of what a man should be. A real man is one of character. Thanks for your vulnerability."
