Prince Harry has shared details about what Meghan Markle prayed for when the couple made a visit to his mother, Princess Diana's, grave.
With Harry, Meghan, and their two children - Archie, seven, and five-year-old Lilibet - expected to travel to the UK next month, it is likely their trip back will include a visit to Princess Diana's burial site.
Prince Harry is set to make the trip in support of the one-year countdown events to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, and it would also mark the first time Meghan and the couple's two children have visited the UK since 2022.
According to reports from People, Althorp House, Diana's family estate where she is buried, is closed to visitors on July 10 and 11, leading to speculation that these may be the dates of Prince Harry's visit to the memorial.
It is not known whether Harry and his family will stay at the property, which is owned by his mom's brother Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, though Harry has previously stayed there on past visits to the UK, including in August 2024 when he attended the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes.
Prince Harry previously revealed that his wife, Meghan, had said a prayer at the memorial to his mother, who is buried on an island at the center of The Round Oval ornamental lake within Althorp Park's Pleasure Garden, following her death aged 36 in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
The burial site at the Spencer family’s ancestral home in Northamptonshire, England, is not accessible to the public.
In his memoir, Spare, Harry revealed that he'd taken Meghan to the site, recalling: "No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… twenty-fifth anniversary.
"And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum."
He continued: "We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity.
"Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone."
Revealing what Meghan had prayed for, Harry wrote: "I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for. Clarity, she said. And guidance."
While Harry and his family are expected to return to the UK next month, no additional security arrangements have reportedly been offered.
Decisions about protective security are made by the Home Office rather than the King, and the issue of their security has been a huge bone of contention for the couple.
Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal roles in 2020, choosing to move to the US, after losing their taxpayer-funded police protection.
Harry had challenged the decision in court, citing his fears for his family's safety in the UK, saying at the time: "The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.
"That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil."
Since the family's move to California, Harry has made several solo visits to the UK, but returned with both children only once for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee festivities in June 2022.
Meghan also visited the UK later in 2022 for a series of charity events with Prince Harry when Queen Elizabeth died, and they extended their trip to attend her funeral.
