Russell Brand isn’t holding back when it comes to his ex-wife Katy Perry’s new love life - especially now that her rumored boyfriend is none other than former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The 50-year-old comedian took the stage on Thursday, December 18, at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, where he decided to take a swipe at Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, in front of a packed audience, per PEOPLE.
“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this, but look. I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge,” Brand said.
Katy Perry’s headline-making relationship history
Perry and Brand tied the knot in 2010, but the marriage ended in 2012 when Brand filed for divorce.
After that split, Perry moved on with actor Orlando Bloom. The two first crossed paths at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016, and by 2019 they were engaged.
Despite spending nearly a decade together, the pop star and Bloom, 48, officially ended their engagement in June 2025. The former couple shares a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, who was born in August 2020.

Rumors swirl as Perry links up with Justin Trudeau
Relationship rumors between Perry and Trudeau first took off in July 2025 after the pair were seen on a date in Montreal. At the time, a source told PEOPLE that things between them sparked quickly.
“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the source revealed. “She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”
The insider also shared: “Music is one of many things they can share. Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult.”
By October 2025, the new couple made things official by stepping out together in Paris. They attended a cabaret show at Crazy Horse to celebrate Perry’s birthday, marking their first public appearance as a couple.

Brand’s ongoing legal troubles
While Brand is stirring headlines with his remarks, he’s also facing serious legal issues. Earlier this year, he was charged with five counts of assault and rape related to allegations from four different women.
The accusations first came to light in September 2023 during a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches.
One woman claimed Brand raped her in a town in southern England back in 1999. Additional incidents allegedly took place in London in 2001, and again between 2004 and 2005.
Brand has continued to deny the allegations, saying he "absolutely refutes” the claims.
