Selena Gomez has spoken very little about her high-profile relationship with Justin Bieber, particularly since their rekindled romance came to an abrupt end back in 2018.

It appears she would rather let her music do the talking as her latest album Rare is reportedly about the heartbreak she suffered in her relationship with the What Do You Mean singer.

Gomez, 27, appears to have made several references to her ex in a number of the tracks on the new album.

In a candid interview, Selena Gomez opens up to Ellen DeGeneres about her health struggles:

In her song Vulnerable, for instance, Gomez seems to open up about the toxic nature of her relationship with Bieber, 25.

The lyrics read: "If I give you every piece of me, I know that you could drop it / Give? you? the chance, I? know that you could take advantage? once you got it / If I open up my heart to you, I know that you could lock it / Throw away the key and keep it there forever in your pocket."

Gomez then goes into detail about a rocky relationship that she can't seem to let go of.

“If I show you all my demons, and we dive into the deep end / Would we crash and burn like every time before?” the lyrics read. “I would tell you all my secrets, wrap your arms around my weakness / If the only other option’s letting go.”

In another track called People You Know, Selena recalls a time she and the star "used to be close", only for the relationship to suddenly turn sour.

The lyrics read: "So many wasted nights with you / I still could taste it. I hate it, wish I could take it back 'cause we use to be close / But people can go / From people you know to people you don't. / And what hurts the most is people can go / From people you know to people you don't."

In the song, Crowded Room, the former Disney starlet reflects back on how their relationship started out.

"It started polite, out on thin ice / Till you came over to break it / I threw you a line and you were mine / Yeah, I was afraid, but you made it safe / I guess that is our combination / Said you feel lost, well, so do I," the lyrics read.
