Jennifer Stallone, the wife of actor Sylvester Stallone, has weighed in on why she believes children of celebrities appear more likely to identify as transgender, suggesting that parenting styles and the lack of structure in Hollywood homes may play a role.
During an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast, Stallone was asked why “so many kids in Hollywood and kids of celebrity parents are transgender.”
“Is there something in the water in Hollywood?” host Katie Miller asked.
Stallone replied that she believes the entertainment industry’s culture of self-expression may influence children growing up within it.
“I just think Hollywood is, you know, it’s all about expression,” she said. “So, however you want to express yourself, if you feel like a cat today, you’re a cat. And it’s so loosey-goosey. I don’t think that we’re really understanding that these kids are not our accessories. They’re little human beings that need structure. And structure is really important for them because it helps their brain organize everything.”
Stallone went on to say that she believes many Hollywood families provide their children with luxury and freedom but not enough structure.
“Growing up in a Hollywood home, there’s really no structure because you have this thing going, and you’ve got private planes, and you’ve got all these giant homes with chefs and secretaries and assistants and housekeepers and nannies,” she said. “And there’s just too much of everything. It gets really confusing for a little person.”
Stallone added that she believes parents should encourage their children to explore their interests while maintaining boundaries and guidance. “It’s OK what you decide to be as an adult,” she said. “But raise them just with good common sense. My daughters were tomboys; they preferred to wear pants instead of dresses, and they loved sports. But I never said, ‘Oh, you’re a boy now.’ I just said, ‘You love to play sports and hang out with boys, that’s awesome.’”
Several well-known celebrities have publicly supported their transgender children, including Robert De Niro, Gabrielle Union, Jamie Lee Curtis, Charlize Theron, Cher, and Liev Schreiber.
Some of their children came out as transgender as adults, while others did so during their teenage years. Many of these parents have spoken openly about their experiences, advocating for love, acceptance, and understanding within their families.

Sistine - who is an actress and model - spoke about her famous father's behavior towards his daughters' dating lives and said, per The Mirror: "He’s very overprotective and quite intimidating. Dating when you have the dad that we do is rough."

"He’s so cinematic. This kid jumped in the car and I never saw him again. Now that we’re older and in relationships, you’d think he’d want to make an effort and want to get to know the boyfriends, but that doesn’t happen. It does hurt my feelings that there has been minimal effort on his part," Sistine added.
This echoes the statement Sistine made in an interview with Today about the difficulty of dating men when your father is as "intimidating" as Stallone.
"It’s very difficult," Sistine said. "He’s quite intimidating to most, and most of the time when they come over to meet the parents, they don’t necessarily return, simply because he’s just so scary."
However, the award-winning star defended himself, explaining why he was apprehensive about meeting his daughter's dates.
"I don't trust their intentions. Because I know men," he said, before noting that his daughter Scarlet has "a really nice boyfriend" whom he likes. Scarlet agreed, saying: "He was great meeting him, and now they're best friends."
As any father will tell you, he quipped that he hoped his daughters would remain single forever, saying: "I'm hoping they turn out to be spinsters. I'm working on that. They stay home forever."
You can watch the family on their reality TV show - The Family Stallone - from May 17 on Paramount+.

Flavin then said she is always "nice" when meeting her daughter's potential love interests, Sistine did agree but added that it wasn't always the case with her Rambo actor father, who "doesn't say hello" to her dates.

As any father will tell you, he also jokingly hoped his daughters would remain single forever. "I'm hoping they turn out to be spinsters. I'm working on that. They stay home forever," he said.
While promoting his family's show, Sylvester spoke about how he's told his daughters to be wary of the public attention ahead of the release of their reality show. Sylvester Stallone's daughter Sistine has opened up about the unconventional parenting methods her father employed when she was growing up.
The 25-year-old is one of the action star's five children as well as her brothers Sage and Seargeoh, and sisters Scarlet and Sophia.
However, growing up with a movie star for a dad - especially one known as a hard man in his flicks - meant the kids ended up having some pretty unusual self-defense training growing up.
Speaking on The Family Stallone season 2 premiere, Sistine revealed that her dad sent her off to school with a "little knife" in her backpack for protection.
She explained: "He made us practice pepper spraying each other. Oh my God, that’s so bad! He put a little knife in my backpack in fourth grade."
Now, it goes without saying that that is something no parent should ever do given the danger to others and themselves of having a knife in school, or even the risk of repercussions for simply carrying one.
The confession came about as the 77-year-old Oscar nominee made his family train with the Defense Strategies Group.
He explained on the show: "I’m not playing a game. These are the guys that have seen combat, faced death. This is the real deal."
The female members of the family were seen donning boxing gloves and throwing punches with trainer Mike, who was a former Navy SEAL, before doing some mat work while Sylvester smoked a cigar and watched.
His other daughter Sophia, 27, asked: "When am I ever going to be doing this in New York?", to which Sistine quipped: "Every first date ever!"
However, the self-defense class almost ended up with a date in itself as Sistine revealed that Mike had started DM-ing her, but added: "But I’m not his type and I’ll tell you why. He follows only girls that have really big curves and Sophia and I are like, boing," explaining that she and her sister have a "stick figure" body shape.
In the episode, Sylvester and his wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone also revealed that they were leaving their home in California in order to start over in Palm Beach, Florida, as their home felt "empty" after their kids had all flown the nest.
The couple's two eldest daughters have moved to New York while their youngest child, Scarlet, was heading to college at the University of Miami.
While Sophia and Sistine were all for the move, Scarlet was pretty sad about saying goodbye to her childhood home, adding: "I actually wanted to take over this house after you guys to raise my family."
Here's hoping she doesn't take any tips in self-defense for fourth graders from her dad when she does eventually have kids though...
