Keanu Reeves makes surprise appearance in trailer for new 'SpongeBob Squarepants' movie

Last week, Keanu Reeves shocked the world by going public with a girlfriend for the first time in decades. The star looked happy and in love as he walked the red carpet of the LACMA Art + Film Gala hand-in-hand with 46-year-old artist and business collaborator Alexandra Grant.

But now the most 'breathtaking' man on the planet has once again left us all stunned, this time by making a surprise appearance in the trailer for the new Nickelodeon movie, The SpongeBob Movie: A Sponge on the Run.

Check out Reeves in the new trailer below:

Per DigitalSpy, the plot of the movie follows SpongeBob and Patrick leave Bikini Bottom and head on an adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to find the  "snail-napped" Gary. The movie is directed by Tim Hill and Tom Kenny will return as the voice of SpongeBob.

Reeves - who is more well-known for his ass-kicking roles of Neo and John Wick - plays Sage, a wise sage who is made out of sage. As his character says in the trailer: "I'm made out of sage and I am a sage, so it works out pretty well."

The movie will also feature appearances and voice work from Awkwafina, Reggie Watts, and Snoop Dogg.

The last SpongeBob movie to hit our screens was Sponge Out of Water, which was released in 2015 and was also in 3D.

It has been quite the year for the Speed star. As well as revealing a new girlfriend, Reeves has appeared in the highly-anticipated John Wick: Chapter 3 and Toy Story 4, and next year will star in Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Earlier today, we also reported how Nickelodeon and Netflix have teamed up to create a new SpongeBob spin-off focusing on

According to a recent report by Hypebeast, the spin-off has been called a "music-based project", which seems to suggest that it might draw inspiration from the fan-favorite episode 'Band Geeks' - in which Squidward attempts to organize the residents of Bikini Bottom into a marching band to impress his rival Squilliam.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is set to be released in 2020.
