On the final episode of his late-night talk show, James Corden sent a heartbreaking plea to America.

The British host said goodbye to his American audience on CBS with a lengthy monologue after what has been a pretty successful eight years in the States.

"I’ve struggled to find the words to sum up what these past eight years have meant to me," Corden started, already seemingly emotional.

"We started with Obama then Trump then a global pandemic. I’ve watched America change a lot over these past few years, I’ve watched divisions grow, and I felt a sense of negativity," he continued.

"I guess all I really want to stay is: I implore you to remember what America signifies to the rest of the world. My entire life, it’s always been a place of optimism and joy. Sure, it has flaws. Show me a country that doesn’t... every single one of us is a work of progress," he said before stating: "Just because someone disagrees with you, it doesn’t make them bad or evil. There are so many people who are trying to stoke those differences."

"We have to try to the best we can to look for the light, look for the joy. It’s out there. That’s all this show has ever been about," he added. "Thank you for letting me do this. Thank you for letting into your home every night."

Check out what Corden had to say on the final episode of The Late Late Show:

The final episode featured a whole host of stars who have previously been guests, and in some cases, even hosted The Late Late Show including, Tom Cruise, Adele, Will Ferrell and Harry Styles.

While the segments including both Cruise and Adele were taped, Ferrell and Styles joined Corden in the studio for a heartwarming farewell to their friend.

"As a friend, I’m so incredibly proud of you," Styles told Corden. "On a personal note, you’ve been a safe space to me always as a friend."

The 'Sign of the Times' singer added that he was "selfishly very excited that you’re coming home."

Then he, along with Ferrell, embraced Corden in a group hug.

Beyond the emotional part of their appearance, they also smashed up his desk with sledgehammers because "it's the final episode" but we'll just quickly skirt over that one.

Elsewhere, other late night talk show hosts including Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and David Letterman appeared in a pre-taped segment in which they joked about stealing segments from Corden's show - of course, they all picked Carpool Karaoke.

I mean duh, who wouldn't? Imagine driving around LA with some of the world's most incredible singers while singing their own songs? Sign me up.

The news comes just a year after the former Gavin and Stacey star announced he would be stepping back from his hosting duties and returning home across the pond to be closer to his family.

His wife Julia Carey and his children Max, 12, Carey, eight, and Charlotte, five, will also be moving back home with him.

Speaking to PEOPLE in an interview prior to the airing of his final Late Late Show episode, Corden opened up about how amazing his time as a host has been.

"It's so great to have had this ride," he told the outlet. "I hope people saw the joy in it and the love that we put into it, that we were a show that took big swings. Jumping out of a plane with Tom Cruise and flying in fighter jets and singing with Paul McCartney around Liverpool and all those things: I hope that people will see that we made a show that we all really, really, really cared about."

We can't wait to see what Corden goes onto do next (but secretly we're praying it's a special reboot of Gavin and Stacey!).
