LeBron James' son, Bronny, has been rushed to hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest while in the middle of a workout.

As reported by TMZ, the 18-year-old was in the midst of a basketball workout when the sudden cardiac event took place, leaving those around him hurrying to get him to the hospital.

Bronny, full name LeBron Raymone "Bronny" James Jr., is a college basketball player for the USC Trojans, looking to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father.

A spokesperson for the family told TMZ: "Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information."

The statement went on: "LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes."

The incident took place at around 9:26AM on Monday, as a 911 call was made from the USC's Galen Center, where Bronny's team practices.

The 18-year-old was unconscious when the medical team arrived, and he was hastily transported to the hospital via an ambulance.

Bronny dons the iconic No. 6 jersey for the Trojans, a number that is synonymous with his father who has placed himself in the basketball history books during his time at the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat.

This year, LeBron became the NBA's all-time leading points scorer after he overtook Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's impressive tally of 38,387 career points.

As cited by The New York Post, the record-breaking athlete spoke to a crowd after claiming the victory and said: "Just want to say thank you to the Laker faithful, you guys are one of a kind.

"To be in the presence of a legend and one of the greatest such as Kareem is humbling. Give a standing ovation to the captain, please. Everybody that’s ever been a part of this run for the last 20 years, I just want to say thank you. … F*** man… thank you guys!" he added.

Earlier this year, LeBron attended the Super Bowl with his wife Savannah James, and when he was displayed on screen, he was surprisingly booed by the crowd.

But the athlete is never one to back down from insults so he made a gesture of putting an imaginary crown on his head - which is a symbol of his nickname: King James.

Our thoughts are with Bronny as he continues his recovery journey.
