Riley Keough, the eldest daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, has confirmed that she welcomed a baby last year at her mother's funeral.
Many people were saddened by the death of the 54-year-old on January 13. She was the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley and passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California.
The late singer-songwriter was laid to rest at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 22, where she was buried alongside her famous father Elvis and late son Benjamin, who died by suicide in 2020.
Presley was many things to people - a loving daughter, a devoted mother, and a cherished entertainer. But it turns out that she was also a grandmother.
Watch the funeral speech below (39:27 mark for Ben Smith-Petersen's speech):This information came to light during her funeral service when the husband of Presley's 33-year-old daughter, Ben Smith-Petersen, revealed that the couple welcomed a baby girl during an emotional speech.
Keough has been married to Smith-Petersen since 2015 and he spoke on her behalf at the memorial. He addressed everyone in the audience with a speech titled "A Letter to My Mama" penned by his wife.
"Thank you for being my mother in this life. I am eternally grateful to have spent 33 years with you. I'm certain I chose the best mother for me in this world and I knew that as far back as I remember you," the husband read.
"I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity," he continued.
"I'm a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart," he said of his mother-in-law, reading the words of his wife.
Smith-Petersen and Keough did not elaborate further on any details, including specifics on when their daughter was born or her name.
A number of star-studded people attended the funeral and it included a few performances from celebrities such as The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan who sang a rendition of 'To Sheila' while Jason Clark and The Tennessee Mass Choir performed 'Amazing Grace' and 'Revelation 19:1'.
Alanis Morissette also sang 'Rest' and Guns 'N Roses founding member Axl Rose - who talked about his companionship with the late musician at the funeral - performed 'November Rain'.
In addition to Keough and her granddaughter, Presley is survived by her younger daughters, 14-year-old twins Finley Aaron Love Lockwood and Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood, as well as her brother, Navarone Garcia, and her mother, Priscilla Presley.
The 77-year-old, now a great-grandmother, also spoke at the memorial and read a beautiful speech written by one of her granddaughters, who she did not name.
"I have no idea how to put my mother into words," she read. "Truth is, there are too many. Lisa Marie Presley was an icon, a role model, a superhero to many people all over the world."
"But, Mama was my icon, my role model, my superhero, in much more ways than one. Even now, I can't get across everything there is to be understood or known about her, but as she always said, I'll do my best,'" she concluded.
Our thoughts continue to go out to Presley's family, friends and fans at this time.
