Sabrina Carpenter has been heavily criticized after performing at the Grammy Awards last night with a bird.
The animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) was quick to jump in after Carpenter hit the stage last night.
Sabrina Carpenter was among the biggest stars at the Grammys
The 26-year-old Man’s Best Friend artist was among a galaxy of stars that turned out last night for the music business annual bash.
Chappell Roan certainly turned a few heads, including Carpenter and fellow star Jamie Foxx, with her outfit, and Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, host Trevor Noah and Justin Bieber all grabbed their own piece of the spotlight for a variety of reasons both political and non-political.
However, now Carpenter has attracted the attention of the notorious pro-animal protest group PETA, who didn’t like the fact that she had a bird on stage with her during her live performance.
While on stage singing Manchild at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Carpenter was seen holding a white bird in her hand.
She wasn’t doing anything more than that, but PETA took to X to show its displeasure.
The group wrote: "Hey Sabrina, bringing a live bird onto the Grammys stage is stupid, slow, useless … and cruel!
"Bright lights, loud noise, and handling cause fear and distress for a bird who belongs flying free in the open sky."
The post added: “Did [Sabrina Carpenter]really just bring a bird on stage in 2026?!
‘The Manchild singer is giving childlike behavior. Leave animals out of the #GRAMMYs!"
This wasn’t the only PETA involvement on the night.
PETA had some choice words for other celebrities
The group also aimed some barbed words in the direction of Lady Gaga, who was seen wearing a costume that appeared to be made of feathers during her own performance.
PETA said: "Feathers belong on birds and birds should be free, not in cages. Not sure what @LadyGaga's #GRAMMYs message is, but that's PETA's.
"Whether they're plucked out while the bird is alive, or after they are killed, the bird always suffers.
"Lady Gaga, let birds keep their feathers.
“Feathers belong on birds and birds should be free."
It’s not clear whether the costume was actually made of real feathers or not.
However, PETA did reserve some praise for Cher, who presented an award - dedicating it to the wrong person, but A for effort - and received her own Lifetime Achievement gong as well.
PETA said: "A Lifetime Achievement Award at the #Grammys feels right for @Cher ... From working to help captive elephants to dogs suffering in the cold. Thank you for using your platform to change the lives of animals."
To Billie Eilish, a noted vegan, the group also said: "Congrats to @BillieEilish on #GRAMMYs Song of the Year for Wildflower.
"From powerful music to powerful compassion, our 2021 Person of the Year continues to lead with vegan values, fur-free fashion, and respect for animals."
