Shania Twain has been criticized by fans after taking part in a photoshoot that involved her posing with a hawk.

The 57-year-old chart-topped recently took to the stage where viewers were left in disbelief at her age, where she revamped some of her old hits during The People's Choice Awards 2022.

There's no denying that Twain stole the show with her appearance, where she performed a medley of her classics - including 'That Don't Impress Me Much', which ironically impressed the audience very much.

During the performance of the iconic song, Twain sang "So, you’re Ryan Reynolds?", and the camera panned to the much-loved actor who appeared to mouth "Oh my god, me?", with a big grin on his face.

However, the singer has now found herself in hot water with Instagram users after a recent photoshoot with a hawk has seen her receive backlash in the comments.

While posing for The Sunday Times Style, Twain donned her signature cheetah print, a conical bra, and floral tights. With her hair slicked back and wearing bright red lipstick, the singer also posed hawk on her left arm, that was being held with a chain around its leg.

She captained the post: "Listen - I'm an icon, we all know that. BUT the real icon from my shoot with @theststyle is obviously RUBY!"

Unfortunately for the singer, the hawk being used in the photoshoot - especially due to the chain around its foot - has ruffled a few feathers that she might not have anticipated.

One comment read: "That don’t impress me much."

A second Instagram user commented: "So sad to see this animal chained! It is sad to see someone call themselves an icon. Is anyone humble in this world?"

A third person wrote: "I’m sorry, I totally respect your music…BUT, some humbleness and unchained models here please," and a fourth concluded: "Wow. Lost all my respect. Nothing like chaining up a bird to get yourself noticed."

That's not to say all the comments were of this manner, as many people rushed to the singer's defense, stating that she is indeed an "icon" and that the bird may be unable to live freely in the wild.

"This is probably a bird that can no longer live in the wild," one Instagram user wrote. "If they're not doing something like this they probably won't be alive.

"Ideally all of them need to be wild but in certain circumstances that's not possible. I don't think this is a bird that was snatched out of the sky and held for a shoot. They are captive due to injury. Whether in a photo shoot at a studio or at the zoo during a visit with guests. I don't see much of a difference."
