The reason behind an NFL draft pick's girlfriend's awkwardly stunned reaction has been revealed.

The first three rounds of the drafts took place on Thursday (April 25) and Friday (April 26). Rounds four through seven will begin on Saturday (April 27).

The annual event serves as the most common source of player recruitment in the league and builds excitement around several talented prospects -- one of those being Joe Alt, a former offensive tackle at Notre Dame.

The 21-year-old is the son of John Alt, a Pro Bowl tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1980s and 1990s, and the brother of Mark Alt, a former NHL defenseman.

He used his 6-foot-9 frame to become one of the best offensive linemen in college football last season, playing 38 games overall and starting 33 at left tackle.

On the 2024 NFL Draft Thursday night, Alt was selected with the No. 5 overall pick by the Los Angeles Chargers, meaning he'll now be tasked with protecting Justin Herbert.

He is also the first player from the Fighting Irish to go in the top five since quarterback Rick Mirer went second overall to the Seattle Seahawks in 1993.

While many people rejoiced over the young man's draft pick, stating that has a lot of potential and will be a solid NFL player, they couldn't help but notice his - and most notably - his girlfriend's reaction.

In a clip shared on social media, Alt's girlfriend, Emilie Meyer - who can be seen sat next to her boyfriend while wearing a black mini-dress - appeared stoic and somewhat confused when the broadcast showed her sitting with the athlete at his viewing party.

The moment led to fans sharing jokes on the platform such as: "Looks like she’s being held hostage."

Another chimed in: "Joe Alt’s girlfriend blink twice if you need help," and a third commented: "She been kidnapped? Can we get a wellness check?"

Others quipped that she had just realized Alt's game checks "will be taxed at 65 percent because he'll be in California".

“Maybe she does not want to move to Los Angeles,” one person said about Meyer’s wide-eyed reaction to Alt’s eventual move.

As hilarious as all the commentary is, the reason for Meyer's deadpan reaction was simple and very unexciting - there was just a broadcast delay at Alt's viewing, which made it seem like the couple wasn’t thrilled in the momentous moment.

According to The New York Post, both Alt and Meyer were eventually seen celebrating after the Charges used their fifth overall pick on the promising athlete.

The footballer said that he thought there was a possibility the Chargers would pick him before his draft selection.

"I thought I had a great interview during the combine and had a good time with coach Harbaugh and the staff and talk about offensive line play," Ault said, per Daily Mail.

Alt now joins fellow first-round picks left tackle Rashaun Slater and left guard Zion Johnson in the offensive line room.
