Taylor Swift fans have called out the star after what has been described as her latest "cash grab".
The 33-year-old singer has been making headlines left, right, and center over the past few months. From the success of her global Eras Tour that has seemingly taken over the world, to her highly-publicized romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Swift has been the talk of the town.
While typically she is always a hit with her fans, things have taken a turn for the worse following a recent announcement.
Taking to Instagram, the 'Shake It Off' hitmaker posted a video in honor of her upcoming 34th birthday. Check it out below:
"Hi! Well, so, basically I have a birthday coming up and I was thinking a fun way to celebrate the year we’ve had together would be to make The Eras Tour Concert Film available for you to watch at home!" she wrote in the caption alongside the clip.
"Very happy to be able to tell you that the extended version of the film including 'Wildest Dreams,' 'The Archer' and 'Long Live' will be available to rent on demand in the US, Canada & additional countries to be announced soon starting on... you guessed it, December 13."
Clearly, Swift was under the impression that this announcement would ignite excitement among fans, however, that was not the case.
Instead, many took to other social media platforms to criticize the Grammy-award-winning artist for her cheap attempt to make more money.
On Reddit, fans flocked to a screenshot of the post, with one user writing: "The way I was excited until I read the 'rent' part. Whyyyyyyyy."
"'It would be a really fun way to celebrate my birthday by making more money off you so you can watch the three songs I strategically cut from the movie. Happy birthday to me,'" another sarcastically added.
A third also described the move as "crazy" saying: "She is really finding a way to get every single dollar she can get out of this. Renting is crazy."
"I love her but this is gross. How much money does she need at this point? Throw us a bone," another Swiftie wrote.
Another argued: "Maybe there will be a purchase option but it's interesting to me that she specified that it will be available for rent. This feels like a cash grab to me... put it out first on rental only and still get paid a bigger amount by a streaming site when it eventually goes there because the fans won't own it already."
And this user branded her a "Capitalist queen for real".
Big yikes.
Things got so bad that Swift's team was forced to disable the comments under the Instagram post after it received so much backlash.
But Swift won't be short on cash after the amazing year she's had so far.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour raked in approximately $96 million at the box office in the United States and Canada during its opening weekend, earning it the title of the highest-grossing concert film domestically for an opening weekend, as reported by CNBC.
In addition to that, back in September, Swift managed to win a whopping nine awards at the VMA's. Her outstanding achievements included winning the night's most coveted prizes including Video of the Year and Song of the Year, for her hit track 'Anti-Hero' from her album Midnights.
The chart-topping artist also claimed the titles of Best Direction and Best Pop Video showcasing her remarkable versatility and artistry across various aspects of music and video production.
And it didn't stop there.
Swift also took home the awards for Best Artist, Visual Effects, Album of the Year, Show of the Summer, and Best Cinematography - a history-making night, that's for sure.
And the Billboard Awards, which took place earlier this month, was no different. Just when you think this woman can't possibly top her wins, she goes and secures herself ten new awards - yeah you read that right: Ten.
The 'Love Story' singer made history at the Billboard Music Awards after being nominated a total of 20 times in a range of categories including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Country Female Artist, and Top Song Sales Artist. Out of those, Swift swept up half of the awards, earning herself the title of the most-awarded female artist at the prestigious event, tying with rapper Drake for the most awards overall.
And of course, we can't forget the impact of the Eras Tour, can we?
Not only will this global tour see her make over $4.1 billion, per The Washington Post, but according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Swift's net worth has soared to a staggering $1.1 billion, primarily attributed to the record-breaking success of the tour, which not only left fans fully satisfied but also gave a significant boost to the US economy during the summer.
It was reported by the California Center for Jobs and the Economy that the final six nights of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Los Angeles alone were estimated to infuse a whopping $320 million into the city's economy.
The bag has well and truly been secured - you gotta respect it.
