Taylor Swift's latest album has sent the internet into a meltdown - and rightly so given all the drama that it addressed.
The 34-year-old's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, is the latest masterpiece the icon is adding to her already pretty impressive collection, but this time, she has cranked things up a notch.
Long gone are the days of heartaches brought upon by toxic lovers, now Swift is also aiming at fans who have criticized her decisions for dating said toxic lovers - namely those who came after Swift when she started dating The 1975's Matty Healy.
I want you to think back to those fateful days when videos of Healy attending multiple Eras Tour concerts went viral online (yeah, it was a dark time) just before the pair started an alleged fling that lasted a few weeks before they eventually called it quits.
Despite it being a brief romance, fans were not happy especially knowing that Healy, 35, had been embroiled in multiple controversies throughout his career, even one concerning one of Swift's besties, Ice Spice.
Things got so bad that some fans even threw together a petition begging the 'Love Story' singer to drop her rebound immediately and I guess their wishes came true.
At the time, Entertainment Tonight revealed that an insider broke the news to them, stating that they "broke up" because they were "busy" and "not really compatible with each other."
"Taylor’s friends want what's best for her and aren’t shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship," they added, referring to her split from Joe Alwyn in April 2023 after six years together.
But Swift isn't going to let it go without having the last say.
In her new album, which became available to listeners last night, she addressed the entire fiasco in a song titled 'But Daddy I Love Him.'
The lyrics read: "I’d rather burn my whole life down/ Than listen to one more second of all this b******' and moanin'/ I’ll tell you something 'bout my good name/ It’s mine along with all the disgrace/ I don’t cater to all these vipers dressed in empath's clothing."
Fans took to social media to discuss the drama, with many actually commending the star for being bold enough to release the diss track.
"but daddy i love him literally being a f*** you to everyone in the month of may is genuinely the f****** funniest thing she could’ve done and for that i applaud her," wrote one user while another added: "lmao taylor saw your think pieces about matty healy and wrote but daddy I love him."
A third also agreed writing: "but daddy i love him is one of the most hilarious songs in taylor’s whole discography tbh! and many of these songs are being added to the comedian taylor hall of fame."
I did not have Taylor Swift protecting Matty Healy on my 2024 bingo card, but am I surprised? Nah.
