Stepping up to the plate is not always easy... unless you're Team USA's Jordan Chiles.
The 20-year-old was the hero we didn't know we needed as she was called in by coach Cecile Landi to replace Simone Biles at the eleventh hour.
And despite putting in endless hours into perfecting every move, Chiles admitted that she was surprised at her coach's decision to put her in.
Biles has pulled out of Thursday's individual all-around final less than 24 hours after it was announced that she had withdrawn from the women's team all-around gymnastics final.
The decision saw Chiles step in - something she didn't quite believe at first.
"I was shocked. I was overwhelmed," Chiles told NBC's Maria Taylor.
"After she did her vault, Cecile [Landi] came over and was like 'Jordan put your grips on.' I was in so much shock that I didn't know if she was being serious or not. So I was just putting my grips on like 'What am I doing?'"
"And then she told me and I was like okay, this is where I have to actually pull myself together and actually do this," she added.
Chiles acted as the first emergency substitute for Biles during the second rotation of the final, taking on the uneven bars - an event she doesn't consider to be her strongest.
Despite her relatively low result of 13.433 on the balance beam, Chiles helped Team USA stay afloat.
"I wasn't supposed to be doing bars and beams, so I didn't know what was going to happen — if she was going to continue or if she wasn't," Chiles said.
"So in that moment, we're all kind of like, panicking. But at the same time, we knew we had to put something together and calm ourselves down because we had a job to do."
The sporting world was heartbroken to hear of Biles pulling out of the team's all-around gymnastics final.
The gold medalist, 24, who is one of the most decorated gymnasts in Olympic history, withdrew after one rotation of the women's team final on Tuesday, July 27, which saw her score her lowest Olympic vault score.
When the news first broke, an unspecified medical issue was cited, with the official Twitter account for Gymnastics USA explaining: "Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue. She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions."
It has since been announced that her decision to pull out of the events was prompted by mental health concerns.
Gymnastics USA later tweeted the following statement:
"After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health.
"Simone will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week's individual event finals. Jade Carey, who had the ninth-highest score in qualifications, will participate in her place in the all-around.
"We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her wellbeing. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."
