Tom Brady shared a cryptic message about "false friends" just shortly after Gisele Bündchen broke her silence on the couple's divorce.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in her first interview about her split from her ex-husband, the 42-year-old opened up about the difficulties of falling out of love. The pair had been together for 13 years before calling it quits.

"Sometimes you grow apart," she said. "When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make."

She goes on to add that "when you love someone, you don’t put them in a jail and say, 'You have to live this life.' You set them free to be who they are, and if you want to fly the same direction, then that’s amazing."

Elsewhere, Bündchen also shut down rumors that she was unsupportive of Brady's football career, claiming that it was "very hurtful" to hear that people thought she gave him an ultimatum during their relationship.

"People really made it about that. What’s been said is one piece of a much bigger puzzle," she told the outlet. "It’s not so black and white."

"...I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever," she continued. "If there's one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it's him, believe me. [...] I want all his dreams to come true."

Following the bombshell interview with the magazine, Brady, 45, took to his Instagram account to repost a cryptic message about "enduring the betrayal of false friends."

Quoting the notable author Ralph Waldo Emerson, the post started with "What is success?" before going on to state: "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends."

It continued: "To appreciate the beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

"This is to have succeeded!"

Alongside the repost, the former quarterback for the New England Patriots added three hearts over a black overlay before publishing it for his 13.7 million followers.

Brady made the announcement that he was officially retiring "for good" on February 1.

The 45-year-old athlete took to Twitter to let his fans know of his decision, thanking them for "letting me live my absolute dream."

"...I'll get to the point right away: I'm retiring for good," he said in the clip. "I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first. So I won't be long-winded."

He continued: "I think you only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year. So, really, thank you guys, so much, to every single one of you, for supporting me. My family, my friends, teammates, my competitors, I could go on forever, there's too many.

"Thank you, guys, for letting me live my absolute dream. I wouldn't change a thing. Love you all," he concluded.
