Fans of Elliot Page have taken to social media to praise Netflix for updating the first two seasons of The Umbrella Academy.

The Canadian actor starred in the first two seasons of the fantasy action show prior to coming out as transgender in December 2020.

However, Page's transition was not an issue for The Umbrella Academy, which has won widespread praise for writing it into his character's storyline.

Not only did they make changes to Page's character in season three, but fans are now discovering that Netflix has also gone back and edited parts of the first two season's to be more respectful of the actor's identity.

To many viewers' delight, the streaming giant has edited the credits on series one and two so that they say 'Elliot Page', and don't deadname the 35-year-old star.

People have flocked to social media to praise Netflix for making the edits. "Say what you will about netflix but it’s really touching how they (and the umbrella academy team) went and edited the credits since season one to say 'elliot page' when elliot came out," one fan tweeted.

"I’m rewatching Umbrella Academy before the new season comes out and I noticed they went back to the credits of the first seasons and updated Elliot Page’s name. It’s so simple to treat humans with respect. I love it," wrote another.

"I was not emotionally prepared to see that they went back and edited the credits so they said @TheElliotPage," a third shared, adding: "Something so easy to overlook and yet so deeply meaningful."

Meanwhile, one viewer thought the streaming service had set a new bar for trans inclusion in the media. "I am never ever even getting close to excusing any show not going back to change that kind of thing," they wrote.

And another was simply excited to see how sensitively the show was treating the actor. "How the Umbrella academy is respecting him and his entire transition is so beautiful and exciting," they tweeted.

On a recent episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, Page revealed that his coming-out story has been incorporated into Umbrella Academy character, who now goes by the name Viktor Hargreeves.

Page explained how he was involved in the process of Viktor's story and how the TV show's creator Steve Blackman fully embraced it.

"When we first talked about it, he seemed really excited about incorporating it into the show," Page said, adding that they worked with transgender author and journalist Thomas Page McBee to find the best way to introduce Viktor on our screens.

Ultimately, Page expressed that transitioning "made [him] better" both as a person and as an actor:  "It’s a beautiful thing to experience now."

Season three 0f The Umbrella Academy is available to watch on Netflix now.
