A man has been slammed online after he ridiculed his date for paying for her meal with coins.
Dan Duarte - a TikToker who goes by the handle @thewaterboy - posted a video on TikTok shaming a woman for counting out her pennies to pay.
The pair met on the dating app Tinder. They were on a second date when the incident occurred, having gone to a golf range the first time they met up, Indy100 reports.
When it came to paying the bill, Dan's date began counting out coins to pay. The TikToker took a sneaky video of her before panning back to himself, stroking his beard and looking skeptically at the camera.
"On a second date with Tinder girl and she's paying with coins," reads the overlayed text.
The video's caption further conveys Dan's shock, reading: "I decided to go out with her again and she does this...You can't make this up!"
Dan's video soon went viral, amazing over 3.7 million views and 377,000 comments.
But unfortunately for him, a lot of the attention it gained seems to have been for the wrong reasons. Many took to the comments section to slam Dan for shaming his date simply because she was using coins.
"Why is she even wasting her coins on you?" one user wrote.
"She's probably paying with coins to embarrass you for embarrassing her and making her pay," commented another.
"She should take this as a sign that he's okay with watching her struggle and not helping," a third chimed in.
"YOU should be embarrassed for letting HER pay," added a fourth.
Not all people were on the same side though. Some started criticizing other commenters for assuming the man should always pay.
"So women should not pay? And you call him cheap?" one wrote.
"'Why is she paying?' Maybe because a man shouldn't HAVE to pay," another added.
In response to this, others pointed out that Dan's video wasn't shocking because he hadn't offered to pay - it was shocking because he was ridiculing her for only being able to afford to pay in coins.
"It doesn't matter who's paying but the fact you're embarrassing her and judging her for paying [with] what she had to go on a date [with]," they commented.
