A man has staged his own kidnapping for what is arguably the most controversial proposal ever, dividing social media users.

Sydney man Adam Rizk sprung the traumatic/romantic moment on his unsuspecting girlfriend during a recent trip to Lebanon, which has recently been in the midst of a turbulent conflict with Israel.

Nevertheless, Rizk decided that this trip was the perfect time to propose to his girlfriend, Vanessa Moujalli - though his proposal plan was definitely one of the more ill-advised ones we've seen.

It was Rizk's sister who shared a TikTok video of the proposal, which has left netizens quite divided.

Rizk's sister captioned the clip: "How my brother decided to propose in Lebanon."

In the video, Rizk's girlfriend Vanessa is in the backseat of a car sipping on some delicious coffee while driving near Anfeh, in the country's northwest with her sister. However, their blissful car ride is cut short when a group of men holding fake guns dragged the women from the car, who started screaming in terror.

Vanessa can be heard screaming: "No, Please! I'm not going with them - I told them I'll give them whatever they want," as she is blindfolded and shoved into another car. Her family - who seemingly know about the proposal - get back into their car and drive off, with a male voice heard saying in the clip: "She's going to f***ing lose it."

Still blindfolded, Vanessa is crying as she is pulled from the car and led up a path where music begins playing. Then, her blindfold is removed and she just bursts into tears as she sees Rizk before her holding a bouquet of flowers. He then gets down on one knee and proposes to her.

Check out the proposal below:

Rizk's sister later revealed to the Daily Mail Australia that the planning took three months. "[Adam] always joked that he wanted to propose in a way to scare her and my family joined in and made it possible when she was visiting family in Lebanon. They always play pranks on each other so it's just their relationship … the overall planning took three months.”

TikTok users were divided over the incident.

"She's not crying cos he proposing.. she crying cause her life flashed before her eyes and she thought she was [dead]," someone wrote.

"Bass why I truly believe if you love someone and want to spend your life with you will never ever ever do this to them done," another person added.

A further comment read: "Nope. Single for the rest of my life."

Many others agreed with this sentiment, as more and more people revealed how they would have answered Rizk's proposal:
