People have proposed in all kinds of different ways, from hiring pilots to skywrite messages in the sky to hiring a full choir to perform Juvenile's "Back That Ass Up." (Or whatever your special song is.) One of the cliche ideas is to use food or a beverage. You hide the ring in some chocolate cake or a flute of champagne, and wait for your lover to discover it. But if they accidentally swallow it, they probably won't want it when it passes through their body and comes back out. So there's a bit of risk there.

However, one new marriage proposal trend sweeping the nation uses a tasty green fruit that seems perfectly built for the task. We all know millennials love avocados. They've created avocado buns, avocado popsicles, avocado lattes - the list goes on and on. Pretty soon they'll make avocado hats and avocado iPhone cases. But their latest ava-concoction is pretty sweet. People are using avocados as ring boxes to pop the question. What better way to do it, than use a food you both love? (And if they get rejected, they have a delicious snack to cheer them up.)

As you can tell from the photo, the avocado works perfectly as a ring box. You just slice it in half and place the engagement ring in the place where the pit would be. And hopefully it isn't too gooey.

One company called Custom Avocados has capitalized on the trend by printing avocados that read "will you marry me?" That's perfect for couples looking to take the next step. I hope they also make one for single people that reads, "I'm alone forever."

Photographer Kim Tyler was hanging out at the beach, and spotted a young man proposing to his girlfriend with an avocado. In an interview, Kim said that she approached him and asked why he decided to pop the question with the trendy green superfood. The groom-to-be replied that "the reason he proposed with an avocado is because on their first date they shared an avocado at a beach party on that very same beach where they met." That makes sense. When you propose, you probably shouldn't jump on a random trend, but do it in a manner that has special meaning to your relationship.

Well, good luck, millennials. For a second, I was worried the new proposal trend would be putting engagement rings in Tide pods, but this is much better. I hope your romantic partner says "I avaca-do" and not "I avaca-don't like you enough to make such a major commitment plus I've been cheating on you with my personal trainer k thx byyyyye."

Now, after saying "avocado" so many times in this article, I've got a craving to go eat my favorite fruit: cucumbers.
