One of the things that makes me feel old (even though I'm still in my twenties) is thinking back on the things about my childhood that people younger than me have no experience with. There's plenty of ways for teens and children to make the rest of us feel old, whether it's by participating in trends that make no sense to us, becoming obsessed with YouTube stars, or simply by not recognizing something that we grew up with. One thing I found particularly bizarre was reading about teenagers that didn't know what the symbol was to decline calls on their smartphones - since they have never had to physically hang up a call in their lives. That kind of news will do plenty to mess with your head. Another example of this, I've found, is the fact that while we had to deal with VHS players and videotapes, a whole generation of people have had no need to ever touch one. I remember taping movies so we could watch them later, with episodes of The Simpsons being taped over important news programmes to the annoyance of my parents. When a film got taped that someone was particularly fond of, they would stick a label on so that no one accidentally taped over it and feigned ignorance - because once that happened, it was gone forever (or so we thought). In the years since, we moved onto the much more compact and higher quality DVDs, then Blu-Ray DVDs (with a brief foray into HD DVDs that completely flopped), finally getting to the point where we don't need to physically own anything at all - with everything a simple download or stream away. So where does that leave all those video cassettes? [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/loneblockbuster/status/876131110304002051]] Well, I'm sure there's a dump somewhere full of now-defunct Blockbuster rentals, and plenty going unsold at second-hand sales, but most of them are probably still in a box somewhere in your parents' or grandparents' house. After all, it feels weird to just throw them out and there aren't many hoping to buy them, so you'll come across them now and then, just like this Twitter user did, to hilarious results. But while the tweet, which garnered over 40,000 retweets and 186,000 likes, is funny enough on its own, people stepped up their Photoshop game to create their own version. A girl whose mom died when she was eight years old opened up to her dad about their daughter-father relationship, and his reaction hasn't gone down well online.

Losing a parent is one of the toughest things that anyone will ever go through, and it also means that somebody has lost their soul mate.

In these times of hardship, the remaining parent and their child should come together and support each other - or so you'd hope.

One woman has taken to Reddit where she has opened up about losing her mother at eight years old, and the impact this had on her relationship with her dad.

Taking to the Am I The A**hole forum, she wrote: "I was 8 when I lost my mom and we were as close as ever but I needed him more. Then when I was 11 he remarried and he became a stepdad to a girl who was 10 at the time. Now, this is where full honesty comes in. I was jealous as hell that my dad was trying to bond with her and that he called her his daughter and us 'his girls' right away."

The Redditor was very candid about her jealousy, noting that she "felt sick" whenever her dad spent time with his stepdaughter, but she noticed that he would eventually start spending more time with his new family than with her.

She recounted an incident where she overheard him speaking: "I was 13 my dad said how much he preferred hanging out with her over me because they had similar interests. He said he couldn't spend enough time with his stepdaughter and he was hoping I would hit the teen phase of not wanting my parents around me that much."

She continued: "Then he admitted he also resented me for not wanting his wife the way her daughter wanted him. He wanted us to be the perfect little family and we looked like a stepfamily where the step is always used because I didn't really want his wife for stuff."

She gave her dad his space and he didn't seem to mind, but when his stepdaughter turned 16 and wanted her own space, he appeared to be crushed by it.

Years later her dad approached her about why she didn't call him to help her move into her new place, and she revealed everything from her jealousy to what he had overheard him saying.

She notes that he seemed "offended" by what she had said and that he said she was "disgusting" for wanting him to not spend time with his stepdaughter.

She concluded: "He also told me he should be allowed to have interests in common with someone other than me. I told him he was. But I was also a kid who lost my mom and clung to my sole living parent.

"He then accused me of manipulating him by saying all that and I told him that he shouldn't have asked a question if he wasn't prepared for an honest answer. He told me I could f*** right off with that attitude and told me to grow up."

People in the comments were not happy with the dad, as one person wrote: "Unfortunately your dad will never understand your side of things. It’s best to walk away to avoid your heart being broken over and over."

A second said: "He clearly didn’t provide you with enough love and reassurance and just expected you to accept them. I could see his position partially up until the point where you share your recent call with him and he just denied it and accuse you of manipulation. He clearly failed to provide enough stability, reassurance and emotional empathy to you."

A third concluded: "Now that you are no longer close, he wants to whine to you about how hurt his feelings are, but he still wants to take zero accountability for his failures as a father. He needs to grow up himself."

A man has reunited with his biological dad after reaching out with a text message.

Cameron shared the heartwarming reunion on Twitter, where he is known to his 21,000 followers as @CamDiggz.

After finding out about his biological dad when he was 18, Cameron didn't feel immediately ready to reach out. It was only recently - after eight years of knowing - that he took the plunge and sent his dad a text. He shared a screenshot of that first text message on Twitter, which you can see below:

"I don't really know how to do this. I'm just wondering and hoping you and I could have a conversation," he added.

The response from his Dad said simply: "About what?"

Cameron replied: "The possibility of you being my biological father."

His dad then asked: "Wow! How old are you?" From there, their conversation - and their relationship - clearly flourished, as alongside the screenshot Cameron shared a photo of the two arm in arm.

"How it started vs. How it's going," he captioned the tweet, which has since gone viral, racking up over 421,000 likes.

Responding to his own tweet, Cameron said he hoped his story could inspire people in a similar situation.

"I now have two fathers. My father that raised me is still in my life," he wrote.

He also reassured people not to feel rushed into reaching out if they weren't ready, saying: "I found out about my biological dad when I was 18. I didn't actually do a DNA test until I was 26."

"Take your time and move at your own pace. Do what you need to do when YOU'RE ready not when you feel like everyone thinks you should be. It can be scary af. You're human [though] so embrace it," he added.

Many people responded to Cameron's post with their own touching stories of being reunited with lost parents.

"Same thing happened to me. His only child and now his very own mini me," wrote one woman alongside a photo of her and her dad.

"I had a similar experience and connected with my dad on Facebook in 2013. Now we’re like 2 peas in a pod," shared another with a selfie of her and her old man.

"This post did a LOT. Y’all’s stories are inspiring and beautiful. Thanks to each and every one of you for sharing," Cameron replied.

"Also for the ones whose stories didn’t end as you expected, your story isn’t over. Keep your head up and always remember how far you’ve come," he added.

There are some things in life that simply do not go together; toothpaste and orange juice for one, or socks and sandals. Separately, they're great, but together... not so much. And this principle applies to parents, too. By themselves, they're most likely lovely. But couple them with an awkward sex scene in a movie or a discussion about how much you've eaten over Thanksgiving, and they're suddenly not so fun after all. Twitter user, @__emmiilly found this out in the worst way possible, as she ended up with the dreaded combo: dad + talking about sex toys. Fortunately for Emily, it wasn't a sex toy at all. Unfortunately, however, the damage had already been done, and both parties were left feeling rather red-faced. It all began with this ominous message: Now, if I had received that message from my dad as a teenager, I'd start fearing the worst. Maybe, "Has the school called and said something bad?" Or, "Did I forget to do some really important chores?" Or even, "Has a relative died?" Thankfully, the situation was nothing that serious. Well, not to Emily, anyway. Her dad, on the other hand, seemed to have something very pressing that he wanted to discuss with her. So he sent two more messages. Here's the first one (you can probably see where this is going). And the second:     Yes, ladies and gentle readers, Emily's dad has found what he thinks is a sex toy, and rather than just put it back and pretending he never saw it like a normal person, he decided to confront his daughter directly. However, rather than just put her dad out of his misery straight away and let him know of his mistake, Emily prompted him to describe exactly what he thinks he's just found. And the internet is so glad she did. Not even able to bring himself to say "sex toy" or "vibrator", Emily's dad describes the mystery object as one of "those disgusting toys that vibrate". Amazing. Even better, he seems to imply that there's no way she can talk her way out of it, as he's "not that old", and obviously knows what it is. Unable to stand the embarrassment any further, though, Emily finally lets him know his mistake. And not only does she educate him on what a portable phone charger is, she also teaches him a lesson about respecting someone else's privacy. So what started as a stern, "we need to talk" message quickly ended up with Emily's dad sheepishly dropping the conversation using the old "get home safe" line. Oh, how the tables have turned. The teenager then posted the messages on Twitter, saying the whole ordeal was "so awkward". [[twitterwidget||https://twitter.com/__emmiilly/status/934697451402887170]] But let's get real here for a second - even if this was a sex toy, and Emily had been hiding it from her parents, would that really be so terrible? She's clearly not a kid, and, without wanting to beat around the bush here, it's probably better that she got her rocks off with a "disgusting toy" than a disgusting boy. Either way, Emily clearly won this round - and rightfully so.

We all wish there was a way to communicate with loved ones who have passed away. But one family is convinced that they've managed to receive a message from their mom after she died.

Not only that - but they also believe that they captured the moment in a TikTok.

Daughter Kim Vincent (who uses the handle @girlygirl607) took to the social media platform to share the haunting but heartfelt message with her followers - but not everyone is convinced.

In the clip, Kim and her family can be seen honoring her mom's final wish - to be taken back to the pond where she grew up.

"My [mom's] wish was to spread some of her ashes in the pond where she grew up," the TikToker explained in a follow-up video.

But as they lay their beloved mom to rest by scattering her ashes in the water, Kim and her family noticed that mysterious shapes were emerging on the surface of the pond. As the ashes were grouped together, they seemed to spell out a four-letter word.

"Look," cried someone behind the camera. "She’s saying something! 'Love'! 'L-O-V-E'!"

Kim and her family were ecstatic when they saw what they believed was their mom's final message. "She told us she LOVE us! Wow," Kim captioned the video.

Meanwhile, they weren't the only ones who saw the word floating in the water. Thousands took to the comments section saying that they saw the word too and express their condolences for Kim's family.

"At first I saw 'I [heart] U,' but afterward, 'love' appeared. That’s awesome," wrote one user, while another commented that they saw "LOVE as clear as day," and a third agreed Kim's mom was "still letting you know that she loves you."

"This gave me chills. Beautiful," a fourth user added.

However, some people weren't convinced that the ashes had arranged themselves into the word 'love'. They argued that the only reason the letters had appeared at all was the way they were thrown into the pond.

"It don’t say nothing," one user commented, while another wrote: "It's legit just the way they threw it in," and a third agreed: "She didn't say love it's just his pouring skills."

Regardless of what people may think, nobody can deny that this was an incredible moment for the family to capture on camera.
