Actor who worked with Nick and Rob Reiner recalls the pair's 'weird' behavior on set - including fighting, kissing, and 'dirty laundry'
An actor who appeared in Being Charlie, the 2016 film created by Rob Reiner and his son Nick Reiner, has described unusual behavior from the father-son duo while filming.
Erik Aude, 45, spoke about his experience on set following the shocking deaths of Rob, 78, and his wife Michele, 70, who were found stabbed in their Los Angeles mansion on Sunday.
Their 32-year-old son Nick has been arrested in connection with the killings.
Reflecting on the news, Aude told the Daily Mail that he immediately suspected Nick before authorities confirmed the arrest. “I said, ‘I bet you anything it was his son,’” he said.
Aude described tension and strange interactions between Rob and Nick on set.
“They were fighting and arguing with each other while they were on set. They were kissing each other on the lips, which was weird,” he explained.
He added, “They were bickering and going off on each other on set. It wasn’t comfortable. There was definitely hostility there.”
Aude recounted one scene where Nick was “sitting on a couch” and Rob was “standing over the couch,” arguing back and forth.
“The way couples would fight in front of people, they just don’t care anymore about showing their dirty laundry. That’s the way the dad and the son worked,” he said.
Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, who had been married for 36 years, were discovered by their daughter Romy on Sunday afternoon, per TMZ.
Romy reportedly told police she initially suspected another family member.
Nick Reiner was arrested on Monday and is being held at Parker Center Jail in downtown Los Angeles, with bail set at $4 million.
A Hollywood screenwriter, Nick has publicly discussed his long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his teens and led him in and out of rehab from age 15.
Hollywood stars paid tribute to Reiner following the news.
Actor and comedian Eric Idle revealed he had spoken with Reiner the night before his death for over an hour. “Rob Reiner was a lovely man,” Idle wrote on social media.
“He was telling me about filming at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future. This is so awful. I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man.”
Elijah Wood, who starred in Reiner’s 1994 film North, expressed his condolences on Twitter: “Horrified to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife [Michele]. So much love to their kids and family.”
