Michelle Obama has made a tragic admission about the night that Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were killed, after the Reiners’ 32-year-old son Nick was charged with their murder.
The former First Lady and her husband Barack were due to meet the couple that evening.
Barack and Michelle Obama were due to meet up with the Reiners
The jarring revelation was made by Michelle Obama during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night, as the ex-FLOTUS said: “We were supposed to be seeing them that night – last night.”
While Obama didn’t reveal exactly what their plans had been, it is known that Rob and Michele had attended a Christmas party hosted by their friend Conan O’Brien on Saturday night with their son Nick.
Now, Nick has been taken into custody and charged with felony murder; his bail was set at $4,000,000.
Reiner’s daughter has also spoken out following the killings.
The bodies were discovered at the Reiners’ family home
Rob and Michele were found dead at their house, having apparently been stabbed to death.
Fire crews attended the house initially, before the investigation was passed over to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Robbery and Homicide division once the circumstances became clearer.
Detectives quickly ‘determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide’ and Nick was identified as a suspect and arrested that evening.
His bail was later removed and he remains in custody at the Parker Center.
Obama also took aim at Donald Trump for his comments on the tragedy
President Donald Trump shared a post on social media in which he called Rob Reiner ‘deranged’, drawing criticism from many corners of the political spectrum, including his former close ally Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Speaking about the current President’s comments, Michelle Obama said: “Let me just say this: unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know.
“They are not deranged or crazed.”
She continued: “What they have always been are passionate people who – in a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on – they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about.
“And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country. And they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth.”
Online, Barack had earlier shared a statement expressing his grief at the tragedy, stating: “Together, [Rob] and his wife lived lives defined by purpose.
“They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired.”
