People can't stop talking about Donald Trump's hair - and now the internet is even having a debate about whether or not his locks are a wig.
Social media exploded with speculation following Donald Trump’s campaign stop in Las Vegas. Observers noted that his hair appeared fuller and more golden than usual, prompting a flood of questions across various platforms regarding whether the president had begun wearing a hairpiece.
The online discussion gained further traction when journalist Aaron Rupar shared a video clip on X, writing, “Is Trump rocking a wig, or what the hell is going on here?”
Rupar later posted a photo comparing the look to a Fox News appearance from the previous night to highlight the sudden change in volume.
Commenters quickly chimed in, with one social media user observing, “He looks like Alec Baldwin playing Trump on SNL.”
Despite widespread online consensus pointing toward a toupee or lace front, professional hair care experts disagree. Dina Kales, a hair loss specialist and owner of The Top Shoppe in New York City, offered a practical explanation for the visual shift.
“From what I’ve seen and after 22 years in the industry, I don’t believe President Trump is wearing a wig or hairpiece,” Kales told HuffPost.
She noted that the perceived volume often stems from fresh hair dye contrasting against aging roots. “As the gray grows in, the lack of pigment in the roots can cause the hair to look thinning or patchy,” she explained. “So when it’s freshly dyed, the contrast is greater and thus looks fuller, which would explain some of the changes we observe with the president’s overall look.”
Marcos Monje, a hair system specialist and barber at Ace of Fades 212 in New York City, agreed that specific grooming techniques are likely responsible.
“Of course, I haven’t examined his hair in person, so I can’t say that with 100% certainty, but from my professional eye, it looks more like styling, grooming and blow-drying than a hairpiece,” Monje told the outlet.
Andrew Disimone, a wig specialist at Hair Place NYC, also saw no evidence of a synthetic hairpiece in the video footage. “Instead, I think it’s what we call in the industry a cotton candy combover,” Disimone told HuffPost.
“This is where you take the hair and grow it as long as you can so that you can spray and comb it into place.”
He pointed out that when the president stands outdoors near Air Force One, the front portion of his hair routinely lifts in the wind, a reaction unlikely to occur with a secured hairpiece.
Wig specialist Sherry Schaefer added that if a toupee were actually involved, the execution would likely look different. “He needs more layers, less length and less hairspray would be a good start,” she said.
