The 31-year-old Canadian rapper — born Daystar Peterson — is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in the foot back in 2020.

According to Pedro Calderon Michel, a spokesman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Lanez was attacked around 7:20AM on Monday inside a housing unit at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

He was given immediate medical aid by prison staff and then rushed to an outside hospital, per AP.

A post from Lanez’s verified social media account revealed the shocking extent of his injuries: “Stabbed 14 times — including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face.

“Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own.”

The statement added: “Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

Lanez was convicted in December 2022 of three felonies related to the July 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete.

She testified that the shooting happened after the two had attended a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home and got into an argument, per CNN.

As she exited an SUV, Lanez allegedly fired a gun at her feet and yelled for her to “dance”.

“Every day I think of others across the world who are victims of violence and survive. It is truly the most powerless feeling, especially when you question whether the justice system can truly protect you,” Megan said in a statement read by LA County District Attorney George Gascón after the conviction.

“Fortunately, the district attorney’s office fought for me. I’m incredibly grateful to them and the jury for the attention to the evidence and siding with the truth. But if it can happen to me, imagine those who lack the resources and support systems to help them.”

Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023. He is currently eligible for parole in 2029.

Throughout the legal process, Lanez has maintained his innocence.

“In no way shape or form was I apologising for the charges I'm being wrongfully convicted of,” he wrote on Instagram following the trial. “I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologise for something that I did not do.”

In May 2023, a judge denied his request for a new trial. His legal team had argued that some evidence was improperly presented during the original proceedings.

Megan also recently had her restraining order against Lanez extended to 2030, alleging that he was attempting to harass her from behind bars through associates.

The incident that left Lanez hospitalized is now under investigation by the prison’s internal unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

No further details have been released about what triggered the brutal assault or who may have been involved.
