Rob Reiner's son Nick being questioned by LAPD detectives after deaths of legendary Hollywood director and wife
Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Their family has since spoken out.
The couple’s daughter Romy found them after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for medical aid at about 3:30PM.
Per People, police are investigating the case as a homicide, and law enforcement sources say the injuries on both victims were consistent with knife wounds.
The couple's 32‑year‑old son, Nick Reiner, is being questioned by the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division. As of yet, no arrests have been made, and no one is in custody.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the family said in a statement to Variety.
His rise from television to film legend
Rob Reiner first became well known as Michael Stivic on the television sitcom All in the Family, a role that earned him two Emmy Awards.
He went on to direct some of Hollywood’s most beloved films, including This Is Spinal Tap in 1984, Stand by Me in 1986, The Princess Bride in 1987, When Harry Met Sally in 1989, Misery in 1990 and A Few Good Men in 1992. His final film, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, was released earlier in 2025.
Reiner was born in the Bronx in 1947, the son of actor and comedian Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Reiner. He also founded the production company Castle Rock Entertainment, which helped produce influential works including Seinfeld and The Shawshank Redemption.
Family life and personal struggles
Rob met Michele Singer when he directed When Harry Met Sally, and the two married in 1989. They had three children together: Nick, Romy and Jake. Reiner also adopted his daughter Tracy from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.
Nick Reiner has spoken publicly about his long struggle with drug addiction, which at times led to homelessness. He co‑wrote the semi‑autobiographical film Being Charlie, which his father directed and released in 2015.
