Movies and TV shows Rob Reiner starred in as Hollywood legend found dead next to wife with stab wounds in LA home
Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Their family has since spoken out. The couple’s daughter Romy found them after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for medical aid at about 3:30PM.
Police are investigating the case as a homicide, and law enforcement sources say the injuries on both victims were consistent with knife wounds. Their 32‑year‑old son, Nick Reiner, is being questioned by authorities in connection with the deaths.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the family said in a statement to Variety.
His acting roles in film and television
In addition to All in the Family, Reiner appeared in a wide array of projects over many years. He portrayed Max Belfort in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, appearing opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2013 black comedy about excess on Wall Street.
Reiner also took on memorable television roles later in his career. He appeared on New Girl as Bob Day, the father of Zooey Deschanel’s character Jess Day, in multiple episodes across the show’s run. More recently in 2025 he played Albert Schnur in season four of The Bear, bringing his seasoned presence to the acclaimed FX comedy‑drama.
His film appearances included a range of supporting roles over the years, including work in popular movies such as Throw Momma from the Train, Sleepless in Seattle, Bullets Over Broadway and The First Wives Club, among others.
Directing hits that defined generations
While his acting work was noteworthy, Reiner was perhaps best known as a director of classic films that audiences have loved for decades. His directorial debut came with This Is Spinal Tap in 1984, a mockumentary that became a cult favorite.
From there he helmed standouts such as Stand by Me, The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally. Reiner continued through the years with acclaimed work including Misery and A Few Good Men. His final directorial effort, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, was released in 2025.
Reiner also helped shape the work of others as a co‑founder of Castle Rock Entertainment, a production company behind influential projects like Seinfeld and The Shawshank Redemption.
Rob Reiner’s career bridged television and film in remarkable ways, and fans and colleagues around the world are reacting to his and Michele Singer Reiner’s deaths as the investigation continues.
